Washer is 7 years old and has always worked perfectly. It just started making a very loud noise when it starts draining, off and on throughout the cycle. The noise continues through the spin cycle, but not during regular wash agitation. The drum spins easily and smoothly. The noise seems to be coming from the back of the washer. Any ideas? Is it dying?
If you have hard water or user a softerner in your water system. One of the legs of the Spider may have disintergrated. This happened to me after seven years. I purchased a new cylinder for about $300.00. Install as a novice with some technical abilities on my part took me 10 hours. Manually spin the spider yourself or google this problem for more info.
It sounds like it has something to do with the pump which can be located in the direction of the noise. It could be something as simple as the belt wearing out or even just the pump came loose off of its mounts. Worst case scenario would be a new pump but it honestly sounds like something a little less intrusive. I know I had one that I had to hold down with a bungee cord because the mount had broken off of it.

I'm not handy and had to have a repair guy out. Yes, it was the pump. It was good to know ahead of time what to expect. Thanks!
