Question about Net Nanny 5 (1128128SF)

Some websites won't load

I am having trouble loading some websites when Net Nanny is enabled. the sites don't come up as blocked, but they either don't load at all or come up with just random characters and symbols. I have had trouble with an HP site and with a site called www.petarascanvas.com . these ae sites that should not be blocked.

The HP page that didn't load correctly was a download page. Not even a high graphics page. Are you saying that just the platform of the page would cause the problem?

That would be my most educated guess. For the same reason that some site builders block open source capabilities. Sites that use flashplayer, etc will not report to Net Nanny with the content as Net Nanny probably uses something similar to Googles page crawler. If I'm correct Net Nanny wouldn't know what was in those flash sites.

I believe it is related to the visual nature of the sites and the platform on which they are built. Net Nanny would not be able to block would be threats to a childs eyes therefore it just assumes the page is no good.

My browser won't down load certain web sites. when I try to down load a program it tels me that my brows setting is enable and it is not

Sounds like your are blocked by a firewall. Disable your antivirus fire wall. If you are at a school, they have the site blocked and your are out of luck.
It could also be a virus which will block a lot of antivirus sites. Try getting to Malwarebytes.com to download their scanner.

Hope this helps. I would appreciate your feed back.

Facebook won't load.

Facebook has become an integral part of many people's daily lives by keeping them connected to friends and family, which can make not being able to get on the site quite frustrating. Facebook does experience occasional downtime and other issues, but if you're consistently having problems accessing it, a browsing filter, firewall or outdated software could be the culprit.

Browser Requirements:

You may have problems accessing Facebook if you haven't upgraded your Internet browser in awhile. As of 2011, Facebook recommends using Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3 or Safari 4 for the best user experience. Updates to these browsers are free and can be found at the companies' websites. Some older computers may not be able to run the latest browser version and, therefore, have trouble displaying Facebook and other sites correctly.

Home Blocks:
Home computers also have tools to block certain websites; parents often install them to keep kids' Web activity under control. If this is your situation, you will have to talk to Mom and Dad about unblocking Facebook for you. If you have a PC with multiple user accounts, the "admin" is often the only account with permission to install or uninstall filtering software and extensions; you'll need to be logged into this account to change a filter's settings
.
Firewalls:

Many computers and their antivirus programs now enable firewalls by default. Firewalls help protect your computer from malicious viruses and software, but sometimes they block access to sites you legitimately want to access. If you suspect your firewall is limiting your Facebook access, check the settings in Windows' Control Panel or in the program that enables the firewall, such as your antivirus software or wireless router software. Making the settings more permissible could solve the problem.

I hope you find it very helpful.

I cant go on youtube on a school computer

Depending on the error message that you are seeing, it is highly likely that the school district has blocked the website from being loaded on any computer that is on their network.

You might try to load it through a masking site (translate.google.com sometimes works too), but you could get into trouble for doing that by the school, and some of them are riddled with virus, so I won't post those instructions here.

I want to block social website. can you help me

1. Load your Internet explorer
2. Click Tools
3. Click Internet Options
4. Click the Privacy tab
5. Under the Privacy window, Click Sites
6. Type in the site address that you want to Block and Click OK. Remember this technique only blocks on one site at a time. Parental control software will allow you to block multiple sites and categories.

And in the case of Mozila Firefox you have to download a addon(plugin) called 'Foxfilter' to block certain websites

I have a new iMac, just installed Net Nanny, and now all the user accounts that are monitored will not access secure servers. The two admin users have no problems. Does anyone know why this might happen?

NetNanny prevents monitored users from accessing secure (https) sites. If you wish to turn this off follow this excerpt from the long, winding NetNanny FAQ:

How do I stop getting blocked for HTTPS?

Login to Net Nanny and click on Web and then on Advanced and uncheck the box next to Block Secure Web Sites.
Hope that helped!
