I have MFC 440CN. Whenever I power up it automatically restarts after few seconds. The LCD shows Please Wait... and then a beep sounds after which it restarts. If I keep the scanner cover open or catrodge cover open then LCD starts fine (but wont print. I can see the menu and all stuff but when I close, the unit restarts. Please help.
Did you had lighting strikes the days before?
It seems that the main circuit board has a short ciruit.
If it is still in warranty you should contact brother hotline.
Does it restart when you power IT up or your computer?

this could be a firmware error. try to do a firmware update by downloading the firmware tool: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/dlf/download_top.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc440cn_all If it doesnt work, please write again here.

It restarts when I power the unit. It is disconnected from the computer.
i have just brought a new computer previous one was windows XP had no problems with this printer but the new computer vista wont load it stating the drivers are out of date so i went on the link suggested brother support
and downloaded the up to date drivers once downloaded my computer is still claiming the drivers are not up to date can you help i am fed up now are spending three whole days so far sorting other problems with vista and connection problems as well and programmes not comforming to vista wished i had never brought the thing why couldnt they have left windows XP as i never found any problems with this
