Question about Apple HP DeskJet 840c InkJet Printer

HP 840c Printer - Print quality problem.

Although the printer seems to work as it should and plain text printing is imaculate, colour print quality has deteriorated badly. There are striations (lines) across the print and the colours are faded. I have tried changing the ink cartridge with marginal improvement in colour but the lines are still there. How do I correct this apparent print alignment problem?

I have lines through my colour - tried changing two cartridges now and still the same. Is there something that needs to be cleaned manually? I have done the cleaning, aligning, testing as described, still to no avail.

Hp photosmart will not print in colour there is ink in cartridge but only printing in black

The first thing that comes to mind is to verfiy that you have not set the printer to only print in black or grayscale.

Check your printer settings by following these steps.

In the software program you are trying to print from, click File and then click Print . The Print dialog box opens.
  1. Make sure that your All-in-One is selected and then click Preferences . The Preferences dialog box opens.
  2. Click the Paper/Quality tab. Options on the Features tab include:
    • Print quality : If you are unhappy with the quality of your printouts, try increasing the print quality. To print more quickly, try decreasing the print quality.
    • Paper Options - Type is : Click the drop-down box under Type is . If one of the options matches your paper type exactly, click it rather than Automatic .
    • Paper Options - Size is : Make sure that it matches your paper.
Verify that this option is NOT selected ===> Print All Text as Black : Prints all text characters as black, regardless of the document color settings for text. Let me know if this resolves your issue. Thanks for using FixYa!

Copy the text into the NOTEPAD application, to remove all text-formatting & text-colouring, e.g., "white" text over a "black" background will become "black" text over a "plain" background.

The printer is not printing all letters clearly. I want to clean the printing heads to see if this will help.

To clean the print head from the control panel
1.
Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray.
2. Touch Setup on the display.
3. Touch Tools.
4. Touch Clean Print Head.
The HP Photosmart cleans the print head and prints a page that you can recycle or
discard.

To clean the print head from the HP Photosmart Software
1.
Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray.
2. In the HP Solution Center, click Settings, point to Print Settings, and then click
Printer Toolbox.
NOTE: You can also open the Printer Toolbox from the Print Properties dialog
box. In the Print Properties dialog box, click the Services tab, and then click
Service this device.
The Printer Toolbox appears.
3. Click the Device Services tab.
4. Click Clean the Print Head.
5. Follow the prompts until you are satisfied with the quality of the output, and then click
Done.
If print quality still seems poor after you clean the print head, try aligning the printer.
If print quality problems persist after cleaning and aligning, contact HP support.

Rx 620 slow to print

Epson's RX620 scans and prints photos at high quality. Text, however, was slow to print and not that good.
it_portal_pic_41791_t.jpg Epson's multifunction devices fall into two categories: general-purpose models that are designed for home or small office use, and photo-oriented devices such as this, aimed more at the enthusiastic amateur snapper.
Because it's a photography-centred device, the RX620 uses dye inks. On photo paper, these produce more vibrant colours than pigment-based inks, and a true gloss finish, but on plain paper produce inferior, less vivid results.
The Stylus Photo RX620 is quite large, and looks dated - but it's not short of modern photo-printing features. Its built-in memory card reader is compatible with seven commonly used digital memory formats, including xD and SmartMedia. Photographers using film will appreciate the scanner, with its high optical resolution and transparency backlight.
On plain paper the RX620's text printing showed bandingand rough outlines on default settings. Our five-page black-and-white text document took two and a half minutes to print. Increasing quality settings made it even slower.
We tried realigning the print heads to improve print quality. The RX620's manual process involves choosing the best-aligned examples from four rows of 15 patterns. This takes good eyesight, and it can be hard to choose between similar-looking options. We needn't have bothered - text remained unchanged.
Photo printing was far better. The RX620 produced some of the best prints we've seen from a multifunction device, but only at its highest quality - and slow - setting. Our A4 test picture took 15 minutes 12 seconds to appear.
The RX620's scanner is excellent, previewing an A4 sheet in six seconds and scanning a 6x4in photo at 600 dots per inch (dpi) in just 14.5 seconds. Negative scan times were reasonable, with a single frame scanned at 2,400dpi in 1 minute 40 seconds.
The RX620 can perform many advanced functions without being attached to a computer, and its colour screen has a clear menu system. Prints can be made directly from memory cards, photo prints or even film. There are four document copying settings, but results using the default Text quality are adequate for most office purposes.
The RX620 isn't a brilliant multifunction device. It does many things well, but its printer is too slow, and simply not good enough on plain paper.

How to clean noxxles, heads, etc.

I'm not sure what you mean by lines, but I had poor print quality and even a "ker-chunk" noise in the middle of the print head travel. On these HP printers, there is a strip of plastic with very small stripes printed on it that runs through the back of the print head. This is a linear encoder that lets the printer know the position of the print head. This gets dirty and the optical "eye" can't see the transitions of the lines on the strip. Clean it with some iso-alcohol and water and you should be all set to go.
