It's unable to use any screensaver. Can you help ?

  • inz_1999 Jan 14, 2009

thank you. since I bought this acer aspire one the screensaver never work. but because I only use at home so it doesn't matter. but since I bring to the office, I don't want people can see. Or is it possible to ask password when I don't use it for about 5 minute ?

  • inz_1999 Jan 14, 2009

thanks but still doesn't work. The only thing I can do is press Fn + F4 to put on sleep...;-(

  • inz_1999 Jan 14, 2009

I am able to select which screensaver I'd like. And after clicking apply, and ok, I waited longer then the set
amount of time, with no result.

  • inz_1999 Jan 14, 2009

What do you mean by : Make sure there is no key stuck in a down position and if you use a wireless external mouse consider turning it off.
My husband has exactly the same wireless external mouse but his screensaver work properly.
Or maybe I just bring to technician ? Thank you..

Pretty much saved me the typing. That's more then likely what you'll need to do. However, if for some reason the screensaver worked properly before but does not work now, we may need to think outside the box on this one.

Could you be more specific? Does the factory logo screensaver not work or are you unable to use any screensaver?

Yes. You can actually right click on the desktop, click properties, choose screen saver... Set up the screen saver you want and choose the amount of time you want the system to wait before the screensaver becomes active. Below the scroll box where you chose your screensaver there is a small checkbox. If you check that and the system screensaver does come on you will have notice when you move your mouse the screensaver will go away but you will have to enter a password before you can resume usage. This, I believe, is your regular system log on password. :)

How far into the process we walked you through do you get before you reach some sort of an error or it just doesn't work? For instance are you able to select which screensaver you would like? And after clicking apply, and ok, do you wait longer then the set amount of time with no result?

The only other thing I can think of is make sure there is absolutely NO activity with the keyboard or mouse. Also if you have any programs running in the background, and this is rare, but some may be set up to disrupt the screensaver from actually coming on. Make sure there is no key stuck in a down position and if you use a wireless external mouse consider turning it off.

    Best of luck,

What I mean by that is to make sure that no key is stuck pressed down. Any keystroke would disrupt the screensaver or even prevent it from activating. The wireless mouse, if a laser mouse, would only need to be moved a fraction of a millimeter for the laptop to read the movement and prevent the screensaver from coming on. Perhaps some hands on work could do the trick. Best of luck to you.

To set up your screensaver, right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Choose the Screen Saver tab. In the drop down menu for Screen saver, make sure something is selected instead of (None). Next click the Preview and it will give you a glimpse of what the screensaver you chose will look like. Move the mouse to get out of it and select apply if you like that one or choose a different one.

So for his profile the screensaver works but not yours? You both are on the same computer?

I just had that problem. I fixed it. Right click on your desktop. select personalize. Then a new screen will pop up. Select screen saver. It was the 3rd one down on my menu. Good luck.

oh a fun one. Reset your bios to defaults. if that doesn't work then try a windows disk boot up. if that doesn't work you're screwed.

if you want any of your files from the computer first pull out the hdd buy a cord and transfer them to another computer.

Hi,

maybe the driver is not compatible with your Acer Aspire.
I believe that Acer has its own Video/sound graphic so you might have to go to the Acer website and look under Aspire 42520 and download the driver from there. That will be the right one for your notebook.

Screen saver

A single image cannot be set as a screensaver unless you are running some kind of slideshow screensaver software. Single images can only be set as background or wallpaper.
