You still have to hit the sync button on the controller and on the console to marry them. Just like when you first got the console. Just hit the small round button on the console that is between the memory card slot 2 and the power button, and the sync button on the top of your controller. The lights on both will spin then lock. They will be married and you will see the controller 2 light on on your ring.

1 Disconnect all accessories and wired controllers from the Xbox 360. 2 Hold the "Guide" button down for three seconds on any wireless controllers, then respond to the prompt on your television screen to disconnect the controllers from your system.3 turn on the wireless headset by pressing the "Power" button in the center of the earpiece. 4 Press the "Connect" button on the front of your Xbox 360 system. 5 Press the "Connect" button on the wireless headset. The ring of lights around the power button of the Xbox 360 system should spin and blink once. One of the lights should remain lit up, indicating the port number that the headset is using. If you do not see any lights on the system, you may have a faulty wireless headset.6 Press the "Guide" button on your wireless controller to reconnect the controller to the Xbox 360 system. If you are using a wired controller, you can plug it back into the system.7 Press the "Connect" button on the top of your wireless controller to sync the controller with your system. You should see the connection light around the "Guide" button on the controller light up, indicating which port you are connected to. Have you tried resyncing your xbox and controllers? On the controller, press the little circle button on the top of the controller, between the bumpers. On the 360, there's a small circle button, about half inch wide, next to the memory card ports. Press that as well.

if you bought a warranty at the store you bought it from take it there and replace it. If you havent call 1-800-4myxbox its Microsoft's hotline. They will try to help you with your problem and if it doesnt work they send you a new console.
1.) you would hold down two buttons, 2.) One would be on your controller (on the top with a little button on top). 3.) The one would be in front of you Xbox360 console (right next to your second memory slot). 3.) Make sure that they are both on. 4.) Hold them both down at the same time. 5.) And then whenever you see the controller stay on one of the number slots (stable controller) then your done!
