    I follow that. This solution wasn't helpful. The PC doesn't recognize the external drive.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, it could either be the electronic/data interface of the external drive or the actual hard drive inside. Proposed course of action would include:

  • try a recovery software like GetDataBack. Download the demo Both for NTFS & FAT and determine which will work/recover your files;
  • if one (NTFS or FAT) would work, either purchase the software or look for freeware equivalent;
  • should neither work, then the hard drive of the Micro BMMDU2 must be physically removed, attached to a SATA/IDE to USB adapter and tried again;
  • if the above works and the drive is recognized, then the electronic/data interface is defective;
  • if still unrecognizable, then the hard drive is faulty;
  • of course, it could just be the USB cable.
Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

have a look into the device manager, right click on my computer icon and select manage, then on the left side select device manager, have the device manager open and unplug the usb drive, plug it back in what happens? does the device appear? any ! or ? Marks? Open the device that has a Error or a yellow ! ? mark, what is the status? right click on it and select properties to see the status.

    If the drive uses a external power adapter the adapter maybe faulty. I would suggest if the drive is outside of warranty, you can take the case apart, remove the drive from the case and plug it in to your desktop computer directly and see if the drive works. if it does, the issue is in the power adapter or the usb case.

Lost or misplaced power supply for Beyond Micro Micro Model BMMDU2 External hard Drive. Need info on Wattage input. Please and Thanks if you're able to hrlp.

Well, looks like Beyond Mico web site has gone to the great Beyond.

From units I have been able to find online, it looks like the power supply is between 20 and 40 watts.

The hard drive unit itself should be able to supply you with the required DC input voltage (hopefully there is some kind of label on the enclosure).

You could try one of these or something similar. It comes with 6 interchangeable heads and has adjustable DC voltage. This is just one of many available.

http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-ACD477-100-240V-Voltage-Adaptor/dp/B000Z31G3M

I cannot guarentee any of these supplied heads will fit your particular drive (same with the dc voltage). But some local retailers often have these types of adapters and you might be able to determine what size you need by looking at one.

I have used DC units similar to these in the past when I have lost a power supply.

Hopefully with a minimum of effort you can get a working solution.

Beyond Micro BMMDU2 250 GB external hard drive not working

It is highly unlikely that it will work. A circuit board from the same make and model hard drive would be a better choice, but I think a fire damaged hard drive would not work with a functioning circuit board. It depends upon how much heat the hard drive was subject to.
There are companies that can recover data from faulty hard drives, but it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services. Depending upon how valuable your data is, I suggest you get a quote first.

My Beyond Micro External Hard Drive (Model BMMDU2) stopped working. I tried to plug it in to working outlets but it just doesn't power on. Can I access the Owner's Manual online?

Beyond doesn't have much in the way of tech support or manuals, but I can tell you that if it doesn't power up, a new power adapter will cost you as much as simply replacing the whole enclosure.

Take the device to a local PC shop and ask the techs there to move your drive into a new enclosure, they should be able to do that for $20-$40 and you will save a lot of headaches trying to deal with Beyond.

Hope this helps FixYA,

Beyond micro mobile disk BMMDU2 is not recognized

The drive USB interface may be damaged; an external case is available form various vendors for about $20. The drive should pop out and into the new case. If still not recognized, then the ID track on the drive may be compromized - that can happen if the USB is unplugged while it is still writing to the drive. There is drive recovery software out there, like EASEUS that works quite well (they have a demo that you can try free) to see if that would work.

Laptop Won't Recognize External HD

You can try opening the device manager in Window XP and uninstall the external hard disk (make sure you show unplugged devices).
Then replug the drive again, and it should reinstall the drivers.
