Question about Mitsubishi VS-45605 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

47" Mitsubishi rear proj problem, 2001 or 2002 circa

Today I turned the TV on and it occasionally distorted to fish-eye lens. The green and red test were out of phase as well. Digital service in our area is always plagued with problems so I chalked it up to Comcast. I walked away and the TV turned itself off. I turned it back on and every chanel was distorted with the previous problem. The TV then turned itself off again. Now it won't turn back on. The on switch triggers the green on light only to turn back off within seconds. I did read here a bit before posting this. It might be the ICS? Might this be a inexpensive repair? Thanks, Doug

Sounds like your convergence IC's took a turn to the south! This repair should not cost you more then 300 bucks or so. If they ask for more then this, you are getting ripped off. Good Luck

I TOOK APART THE TV TO MOVE IT DOWNSTAIRS AND it worked great for 10 minutes and then shut down. I have the code and it is green and 2 and 2

That is called the "Parpadeo luz verde de la muerte" or Blinking green light of death. You may want to make sure all the wires are tight first and that when you moved it a cable wasn't seated. Instead of replacing the capacitors, your situation sounds more like bad solder connections on the DM module. Here is a link to a web forum where they talk about this exact problem. Mitsubishi VS-55609 distorted Picture Flickers

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs. To get fixed either call in a local TV repair company or goto sites such as Tv Repair Kits to get a repair kit with instructions. Here is there link.

They have put together complete kits for most models that include the parts, step by step photo instructions, repair assistance, etc.

We have a 52 inch rear projection Mitsubishi not sure of the model number and the picture is starting to go blurry with reds and greens at the bottom of the screen

Here is another similar problem with a Mitsubishi Rear Proj. TV and it has some things to try and an estimate if that is the problem.

"Cost of convergence repair is always around $400"

You could also try messing around in the menu for convergence adjustments. Usually it will let you adjust at 8 points on the screen.

Blinking Green Light Mitsubishi TV

I had the power supply replaced, but didn't solve the problem. Turns out multiple issues were at play. Only thing that solved the problem was to the have the chassis pulled and rebuilt by Mitsubishi. If you are insistent enough they should do it for free, minus the labor for removal and re installation (approx.$300)

What is the liquid under the lens

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Projection TV with Distorted picture

You have one of two different problem. You have bad solder connections on the convergence amp IC's, or you have bad convergence amp IC's. By the way it is acting, I bet if you or someone else resolders all of the pins on both IC,s your problem will go away. But if you keep letting it do this, it will most likely cost you double to repair in the future. Good Luck
