Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Hardware for laptops is usually specific for the provider. Go to the dell website to find the correct driver files for the laptop. There is probably some good information for troubleshooting this specific issue there too. Your service tag or maybe the express service code number is your key to the right stuff.

Go to Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, Administrative Tools, Computer Management. Under Computer Management, expand Storage->Disk Management. On the results panel, Right Click the Volume(X:) then click Mark Partition as Active or click Reformat.

If that's so, reinstall the your dvd driver. Most of corrupted/missing files are caused by virus attack. Reinstalling the driver may fix that.

My cd drive does not recognise cds

Okay. First of all is it a cd drive in your computer as opposed to a DVD drive? If you put a dvd into a cd drive it cannot recognize the dvd. A dvd drive can recognize a cd, but a cd drive cannot recognise a dvd.

Does your computer actually recognize the drive as being present?
If the drive isn't recognized by the computer try:

power off the laptop
Physically remove the cd or dvd drive
power -up the laptop without the cd/dvd drive
power off the latop and refit the dvd/cd drive
power it up again and see if the drive is
recognized

If the drive IS recognized by the laptop but won't play any disk it's probably the drive itself at fault. You can try gently cleaning the inside of the drive - the optic that reads the disk. However, the usual cause is failure of that optic which read the disk information. It cannot be repaired.

The alternative to fitting a new drive is to buy a portable dvd drive. They connect via a usb cable. Have a look on Ebay

Hi, ive got an Acer Aspire. When i put a disk into the drive it makes this werid sound, not a beeping but just err err err. and nothing happens to the disk. Nothing wiill start when and after i insert the...

This indicates that you media (CD/DVD) cannot be read/is not recognised by your notebook drive: to make sure that you have a working drive, try inserting a know good CD/DVD. If this works, then you may have a compatibilty issue either because of the media used (eg. brand especially with Rewitable device) or the format of the data on your media (is your drive capable or reading both CD and DVD). You can assess the compatibility issue by using another computer/notebook to try to read your media.
Hope it helps: let me know how you go and good luck!

Dell media direct won't work

Hello,

Here is the steps,

1.Turn on your computer.

2.Insert the reinstallation media (Dell Media Direct CD/DVD) into the CD/DVD drive, then restart the computer.

3. press F12 when the bios page comes up and then select CD/DVD drive from the boot menu.

"Option 1" from the menu if you wish to use all of the hard drive for you operating system installation. This is the most common selection and how is your computer was originally shipped to you, unless you specified an operating system partition size at the time you ordered you computer.

"Option 2" to designate a size for your operating system and have a data partition. This allows you to specify a size for the operating system partittion, leaving the remainder, of the hard drive configured as a "data" partition ("D")

4. Once you have prepared the drive and you have returned to the main recovery menu, remove the installation media and replace it with you operating system reinstallation media. Select the option to reboot your computer. If your computer does not automatically start the media, press <F12> to access the boot menu and select the Cd/DVD boot option.

5.Install your operating system, select the Primary partition when prompted. If you have two hard drives, select the primary partition on the same disk where hte media direct partition resides. Once the OS is installed and the necessary drivers are installed you can begin the reinstallation of the dell mediaDirect software.

Good Luck,
Austin

Dvd rom prob;em

First you need to check to see if your DVD drive is recognised in the BIOS. If it is not, then you have a drive fault. If it is, then all you should need to do, is download the most current Chipset drivers for your system from the Acer website:
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_4720.html

If this doesn't work, then uninstall the DVD drive from Device Manager. Uninstall ALL burning and media programs that you have. Restart the system. Install your burning and media programs. Restart your system. Your DVD drive should be listed in Device Manager, if not, then you will need to manually add it from the "Add Hardware Wizard" and select it manually.

Wont play commercial dvds

should i assume that the drive work previouly with com dvd? my annlysis of this problem is that the dvdrom is not able to read the format the dvd is in. the format of the hard drive does not determine the ability to read or not read a dvd. that is the job of the optical disc.so dont worry about the format that is in.ok. the other aspect of the ability to read dvd is the software. windows media player and other that are of age has a inability to play some new format dvd. best bet install the newest version of power dvd put the disc and check should start automat pending setting you may need to go to my computer and double clickon the romdrive. let me know.

Cd dvd drive only recognises cds

Just check if the region code has not been locked. If you cannot play DVD's at all, first clean the lens, then install a good DVD player like cyberlink etc and then try. If the issue is related to Data DVD's as well, change the media that you are using, eg change the media type to Samsung, Sony and check. Lemme know if it works.
