What is the meaning of X in the word DOCX?

The X stands for XML (Extensible Markup Language), which is the programming language behind the scenes in Office 2007 programs.
Previous versions of Word were based on binary data. Binary data is, by nature, prone to corruption, and "bloated."
By changing the background code, Microsoft was able to create new tools and features in Word 2007 that would not have been possible otherwise.

Converting formats

RTF, better known as Rich Text Format is a file format standard where, by default is opened with Microsoft Word. If the person that received your RTF documents opens them, they will open in Microsoft Word. If the recipient edits and saves them, they will still be saved in RTF. When they send those documents back, you will open them....and back and forth.

Every time I scan a multiple-page document into a PDF file using my HP LaserJet M1319fMFP, in creates a separate file -- or document -- for each page, rather than simply scanning all the pages into a...

There is no easy way of doing this.
What you can do is scan each page as an image file, then use an OCR program to convert each page into a text file and save them. Then open a fresh/new Word document, then open each text file page and copy and paste each text file page into this Word document.
After you have copied all the pages into this Word document, then spell check it, edit and format the text then save the document. You can then create a PDF file from this Word document if you need to.

I have got a DCP-110C printer, how do I scan a document onto the computer then alter the text within this document?

Try this procedure and let me know how it goes

  1. Scan the page you want to convert into a Microsoft Word document.
  2. Save the scanned image in *.gif, *.jpeg or whatever format.
  3. Open that image, go to "File->Save As" and name it "xyz.tiff" in the "TIFF" format as shown.
  4. Go to "Start->Programs->Microsoft Office Tools->Microsoft Office Document Imaging"
  5. Go to "File->Open" and open your scanned document that has been saved in *.TIFF format.
  6. Go to "Tools->Send Text to Word." You will get a prompt stating this process will take time, Click OK. This will take some time depending on your computer's speed (a minute or two at the most).
  7. When it's done it will open up Microsoft word on its own and the scanned document will now be in editable mode.

Is it possible to convert a .wps format, to a .pages format?

when at school go to the file "save as" option and you should be able to save the wps document into a word format ( using the drop down menu at the bottom to select microsoft word document ) or something along those lines.

You should then be able to use that in pages and email it back to an email account ( that you have or use ) in a word format or maybe save it as a word document.

The other option would be to download and install open office ( http://www.openoffice.org ) and bring the documents from school to home as a word document as per above and use open office to do what you need to do and save it as a word document again and you should be able to do it that way.

Short of that speak with the IT person and see if they can use open office ( pages is a mac only piece of software from what im aware ) so dont think that will be an option at your school where as open office should be as its free.

Word does not really have an image format but allows you to place an image on a page (as in desktop publishing)

Converter needed for WPS Doc To Word Doc

Three choices: * If you have WP, open it in that, save it as an RTF file & then open it in Word. * I assume you downloaded the appropriate import filter or filter pack from the MS site. Did you install it? IIRC you need to double click on the file you downloaded so that the filters get installed. * Assuming the "recover text" filter was installed when Office was installed, open the WPS file using that - you will lose most, if not all, formatting but you should get all the actual text. If none of these work, perhaps because the appropriate filters aren't there and, for whatever reason, you can't install them, take the disc to an Internet cafe. See if they have a PC with the right filter(s) on or are willing to install them for you.
