Tv won't recieve a remote

The remote doesn't work at all. I have also tried programing universal remotes and the Tv doesn't pick them up. When I try and change the channels on the buttons on the tv it changes the inputs and not the channels. What can I do to fix it? Thanks

Greetings!

Chances are that the infra-red receiver in the set has gone bad, since you have tried two different remotes. Having said that, it is always possible that the universal remote doesn't have the correct code in it to operate the set. You can always take the original remote to a shop and have them see if it is puting out infra-red. Your local Radio Shack might even have an I.R. sensor to try it on.

If the I.R. receiver is bad I can't give you an easy fix. Though not difficult to replace, the original part (932215244687) has been discontinued. Your local repair shop probably has one laying around that would work, but may not be eager to sell it to a do-it-yourselfer.

Hope this helps,
Rob

Sorry, I got interupted and forgot this part. Since the channel buttons on the set are changing the inputs there is a very good chance that there are no channels programed into the sets memory. The front panel of that set has menu controls. Get into the auto-program section of the set up menu and auto-program the set. This should take care of that problem and allow you to change channels on the set itself.

    Good luck!

Can't use tv without remote

There are many TV's that require a remote to operate them.

Are you saying your remote is lost or broken?

If that's the case, and you don't wan't to purchase an original replacement, you could try a universal remote.

Many 'universal' remotes come pre-programmed or can be programmed by entering codes for the make of TV.

Hope this helps.

Remote Control for Magnavox Big Screen TV (PTV 705-AH01)

sgtdar, list the model & chassis number (located on back of tv), if set is old the universals won`t work because as more newer sets come out they delete the older ones because the chip in the remote will only hold so many codes, BMW Rider
