Question about Samsung TXJ2879 28" TV

1 Answer

High pitch sound and fuzzy

My Samsung makes a high pitch sound as soon as I turn it on. The pitch stays the same despite of different volume settings. It annoys the heck out of me. Second problem has to do with the picture quality. The pictures seem out of focus. When I watch baseball, sometime I can barely make out the score. Is there anything I can do to fix these two problems? Thanks.

Re: High pitch sound and fuzzy

The high pitched sound, probably not, unless you open this TV set and find out what is making the noise and replace the part. Most likely a coil or transformer is vibrating so fast that the frequency is very high. On the focus, possibly can be adjusted. Now when you take off the back of this TV set, i must warn you, follow my instructions to the letter as there is enough High Voltage in this set to make a grown man cry! After you take out all of the screws off the rear cover, carefully lift up the cover straight up. Oh by the way the TV should be face down. Opps! Not stand back up the TV set and there will be a Grey or black block like looking thing with a large red wire going to the top of the picture tube. on this block you will find two controls, one will say screen, and the other will say focus. DO NOT ADJUST ANYTHING ELSE WHEN YOU ARE IN THIS TV SET!!! No slowly rock the focus control back and forth till you get the sharpest picture. Put back on the back cover and enjoy!!! Good Luck

Audio: Occasional high pitched sound

TV's have a number of devices called coil (coils of wire) that can make noises like that if they get overloaded. Apparently, you have a bad solder connection somewhere causing this condition in one of the circuits. Perhaps a tech can open the set up while running and listen to discover which component is 'singing' and resolder the associated circuitry. I'm guessing the set is over ten years old to be having this kind of problem in which case it isn't worth a lot of effort to solve.
Hope Ya Fix it!

Weird noise over everything

According to the Samsung website: "The high pitched sound you hear is probably coming from the flyback transformer. The flyback transformer converts the relatively low voltage electricity that comes from the outlet in your home to the high voltage electricity needed to drive the cathode ray tube in your TV. It is not unusual for a flyback transformer to buzz softly when it operates. However, if the sound is loud and high pitched, it probably means the transformer is failing. To eliminate the sound, you will have to get your TV serviced."

In this model the horizontal drive coil vibrates and makes a high pitch squeal. Most times it is intermitent. Touching on the coil with something (non electrical, like wood) will make it stop or change it's pitch. The fix my shop uses: It's not to technical, but, we put fingernail polish around the coil. It's a remedy I've used for decades and has always worked. Some shops use a hot glue gun. With the back open you can hear the coil to locate it. When fixing the problem have the set unplugged. When a technician is working on a television while it's plugged in. He uses only one hand and stays away from the high voltage.

High pitch sound for Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-27HS420 27" TV

The high pitch squeal you hear is usually caused by a coil vibrating, normally in the horizontal circuit. I've also seen the ferrite bead on the horizontal output transistor do this, but, it is rare. I normally will repair this by finding the coil and "tightening" it. To tighten a coil, technicians use different chemicals, such as, a hot glue gun, rubber silicone or even finger nail polish. I will find the coil that screams by starting with the usual suspects and using a wooden dowel, barely touch the coil and if the pitch of the noise changes, then, thats the coil that needs repaired. If you do not know your way around the inside of a television, I never recommend you do so, since, this procedure must be done with the set turned on and you poke your hands around the inside of the set by the high voltage circuit. Hope this helps your decision.

TV makes high pitched noise

In 1080i the horizontal frequency more than doubles from 480i. This means that possibly the high voltage transformer or a linearity coil is occilating at that lower frequency.
