I paid and downloaded the service manual (21 MB) for the projection TV Sony kp-fs43m31/m61/m90/m91, fs53m31/m61/m91
I didn't fix it yet but ready to upload it somewhere like :
Do you have a better one to recommend?
Also, on this TV I tested the board at the very end of the tube and seems OK .There is another card fixed to the tube ( the velosity modulation card) whoseems to have different characteristics (maybe bad ones) than the other (Icompare with the one on the green tube). Do you think that this card might beresponsible for the light convergence of the red color?
It started with a diagnosis of High voltage or 5volts problem seen on the standbye light after the red bulb was over powered and the TV turned offautomatically.
I fix the overpowering by decreasing the focus for the redtube. I get a reasonable good picture but we can see that something is wrong ona picture with a lot of red.

    You're right with the TDA 6120Q unless you tried with an oscilloscope 50mhz. I tried with a 10mhz to measure the pin Vout (12) and compared with the signal on the green CR board, they were similar.

    So I went to The VM board. This one has several transistors heat sinked too, I was able to test them on board and compared with the green one. there is difference.

    What do you think about the VM board (page 97) might be the cause?

    How to be sure that is not a convergence problem?

Hi again JP,

There are a number of free online file storage. An example is File Qube or Orbit Files.

Soon as you post the link to the file and I could download, will let you know my thoughts.

    Initially, let's concentrate on the CR board, right at the rear end of the red tube. If a replacement board is available, that would be the quickest approach. If not readily available or if you prefer component level, then you need to check the components of this board specifically, the transistors, diodes, capacitors and resistors. Two components that would not be possible to check completely are IC9101 (TDA6120Q) and Q9102 (2SK2036) other than obvious shorts or burned chip. Offhand I would suspect the IC more and/or this 2SK rather than any of the other components. The easiest would be simply to replace (good or bad). Though it is only fair to mention that in some instances, it could be just an open resistor such as the R9120.

    Appreciate the update.

    • On the VM board - for the moment, I doubt. The difference could be attributed to the colors of the signal source. Perhaps you could try again with with a black & white video signal (an NTSC VCR or DVD);

    • convergence - this too I doubt. If it were a convergence issue, the red would not be overpowering, the color strength would be the same except that they videos would be 3 (for each color) and would not merge;

    • CR board - hoping to check further this board, have you also checked out of circuit (at least one leg) R9104 and/or measured voltage at pin 10 of the red tube?

    • when you checked pin 12 VOut and compared with the green, was the amplitude also compared?
