First off, any time you lay a refrig down you should have it remain standing up for a minimum of 24 hrs forthe compressor oils to return to the copresssor, unplug and allow to rest for allotted time try again tommorw morn.

Why doesn't it run after being moved across town?

laying down is a no no and has to stand turned off for about 24 hours so the oil returns to the compressor . quite likely you have burned the compressor up using it too soon .

I bought a danby fridge dff280wdb at an auction it was not plugged in but is new with all the tags . i had to lay it on it's back to bring it home but i let it stand for 3 hours before plugging it

I would suspect there is no refrigerant in the system any more. Sounds like there was a leak (hissing and odor). Not worth getting it fixed if that is the case.

My Maytag refrigerator Model # MSD2651HEW (26 cu ft , side by side) would not cool there was a rrrrrr noise with a clicking noise and the compressor would heat. I got a factory OEM part from Sears and...

Did you lay down the fridge while cleaning it? if so: Normally if you lay down your fridge the compressor oil is running into the pipes that carries the gas to cool the inside. if that oil is in the pipes you have to shut it down for at least 2 days for the oil to return to the compressor, if not layed down, the chances are that you running out of gas and had to have it refilled

I am moving and need to lay the fridge on its side, but have been told you cannot do so, is this correct?

You do not want to lay that refrigerator on its side because the refrigerant will leave the compressor and fill the system with liquid refrigerant where it should only be existing in a gaseous state, and if the refrigerator is tilted far enough over or lay-ed onto its side then the refrigerator will have to stand up-right and un-plugged for at least 24 hours before the liquid refrigerant will settle back down where it belongs, and then the refrigerator should actually function again if there was no other damage caused when moving the unit.

It's loud and sounds like the motor but was on it's side and waited 2 1/2 hrs then plugged it in tried to level it? stil been on for 2 hrs should have gone up to temp.?

You should never lay a fridge on it's side. But if it is un-avoidable then you should wait 24 hours before you plug it back in to make sure all the oil makes it's way back into the compressor. Try leaving it unplugged for 24 hours and then plug it back in and see if it starts cooling. If the oil makes it's way into the lines compressor damage could have happened when you plugged it in but also that oil in the lines will cause the fridge to not cool. The oil will not make it back down into the compressor if it is running. Hope that helps.

How do I clean the coils? My refrigerator is freezing food off and on. I pulled the fridge out, but it's all covered in the back. How do I check the coils?

It breaths through the front on the bottom. If its like mine. The coils are down their. The cooling fan sucks air in one side and blows it out the other side on the bottom front. Take off the cover and use a vaccuum cleaner with a thin hose, lay down and carefully vac. as much as you can. If you have a dog or cat this area is going to be full of fur.It is hard to clean it well with out laying the unit down on its back. If you want to go that far have plenty of towels ready and a mop.(taking it out side is nice before laying it down)Of course the food comes out first and gos in a ice cooler. The MAIN rule is this, If you lay it down for 1 hour then let it stand for at least 1 hour before you plug it back in, 2 hours down at least 2 hours up before plugging it back in.This let the refrigerant oil go back where it came from.

We bought a amana fridge and had to lay it on its side to get it home how long before we turn it on.

The manual usually says 24 hours, but if you have the manual, look there. 24 hours should be fine if you have no instructions.

Question about moving a fridge and now it needs a costly part??

The refrigerator should have been transported in an upright position.
If not, oil will run out of the compressor.
This will cause problems.
