On several ranges we have had, the electronic ignitor fails about every 5 years. First a delay in starting and then the delay increases. There have been 2 or 3 screws to replace it. The trip to the parts store is longer!

Oven doesn't light. The element glows, but the

Hello Randolph,

Since the ignitor glows it eliminates all other possibilites and the ignitor is weak and not drawing enough amprage(3.3 to 3.6) to open the gas valve, i know you going to have a hard time believing that since it does come on, but i base my diagnosis on my 30 years experience as a appliance repair technician

My oven is not working The Broiler works and the stove top works fine but the oven will not heat and when you turn it on no gas comes out I tried turning it on and using a lighter but nothing happens

You gave us good clues in information!-- Thanks!

Most modern gas ovens have a device called a Glow Ignitor to light the burner.
If this ignitor has filed, it will NOT left the gas valve open-- (Good thing, right? :-) )

You say the broiler lights fine-- so let's observe something when the Broiler lights:
Do you see a bright glow near the Broiler burner?
(Usually toward the top rear of the oven--)

Well, you should see a similar bright glowing near the BOTTOM rear of your oven, for the main burner to light off-- If you do NOT see this glowing-- then you need a new ignitor-

You can remove the bottom burner cover, and dig deeper into the repair if you like-
But a new ignitor needs to be exactly like the failed one-- the safety circuit is very fussy about the exact same ignitor-- or it will not allow lighting-- even with a new 'generic' installed.

How deep do you want to go into this repair?-- Maybe it is time to call the service people into do the job?-- You can tell them that you think the ignitor needs replacing-- and approx. what will they charge you for the service call and the ignitor?

I hope this helped.

Oven glowplug lights but gas will not turn on oven, broiler works fine. have replaced gas valve and circut board

Even though the ignitor (glowplug) is heating up, it more than likely still needs to be replaced. They do become weak over time. An oven gas valve requires a certain amount of current moving through the coil in order to open the plunger. The he circuit goes through the ignitor, and the hotter thee ignitor gets, the more current flows through it. As the ignitor weakens, it does not allow sufficient current through the circuit to open the valve. Replace the ignitor and you'll be baking in time for Thanksgiving. Use caution when installing the ignitor, as they are extremely fragile. Also, do not touch the actual element section of the ignitor when installing it.******Remember to remove power from the range before making this repair.
Good luck, and gobble, gobble.

I have a wall oven and the power goes on but no gas smell or anything no flames no nothing i think its the ignighter what do u think please help

Yes, ignitor problem. Some ignitors are easy to replace and some are hard to install. If you know how to test for voltage at the ignitor and a pretty handy, you can replace the ignitor yourself. Call your parts house and order a new ignitor using the model number. Ask if they have a cheaper generic replacement. Replace the ignitor and test. So far, every gas range I have worked on with this problem, has been a bad ignitor. You can also have a bad oven control, sensor, thermostat, valve, or wiring problem. Unlikely however. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists.

Everything works but the oven burner doesn't lit

Check the ignitor. It is the small "clicker" that lights the gas in the oven. If the wire connector is rusty, clean it and reattach and re-try. If that does not work, remove old ignitor and take it to your local appliance parts shop... Install a new one and enjoy your oven!! -Jim

Kenmore gas oven won't light. The pilot light is on but no gas. What do I do?

Put a torch on the probe. If the flame comes on them the thermocouple is weak.If nothing at all replace the safety valve. That is if you have a standing pilot. If you pilot is an electric one then it should be so bright it is hard to look at but if it is dim orange it is weak.

My oven won't light but I don't get the orange glow .

Make sure you have 120 volts to the oven wiring terminal. Could be a completely broken ignitor this time. Disconnect the ignitor wires and attach a volt meter to the incoming ignitor wires. Turn the oven on. If you read 120 volts the ignitor is bad. If you read no voltage the oven control is bad.
