Region code changes

Is there a way to change the region code setting on my computer to 'all' so I can watch dvd's available in Canada, New Zealand, etc. I can only change the region code 4 times before I can't anymore. Is there a way to over-ride this?

You can always try the program called DVD Region Killer.
DVD Region Killer is a simple, small and easy-to-use software application that enablesyou to play DVD titles made for different regions on your PC, without the hassle to switch the region of your Windows operating system and / or the region of your DVD player software back and forth.

DVD Region Killer can reside unobtrusively in your system tray and you can access it easily only when you need it.

Hi, I bought a haier pvdv-790. When I put in the DVD and try to play, the error message is wrong region. I am in New Zealand, what can I do?

You need to go into the DVD players properties and change the region. WARNING: you can only change the Region Setting 3 times. I do not know what code is correct for New Zealand However. Do not take guesses as once you make the 3rd change it will be set that way forever.

To change your Region Code click Start- Computer - right click DVD Drive - Properties - Hardware Tab - Click on the DVD Drive on the list of hardware then click on Properties button - click on DVD Region Tab - choose your country then click ok button - click apply button then ok on the previous window - restart computer.

Note: Region Codes can only be change up to 5 times.

Here's the list of Region codes and its respective countries.

Region code and Area
0 Informal term meaning "worldwide". Region 0 is not an official setting; discs that bear the region 0 symbol either have no flag set or have region 1–6 flags set.
1 United States, U.S. territories, Canada, Bermuda
2 Europe (except Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus), Middle East, Egypt, Japan, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, French overseas territories, Greenland
3 Southeast Asia, South Korea, Republic of China (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Macau
4 Mexico, Central and South America, Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, Oceania
5 Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Africa (except Egypt, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, and French overseas territories), Central and South Asia, Mongolia, North Korea
6 People's Republic of China, Hong Kong
7 Reserved for future use (found in use on protected screener copies of MPAA-related DVDs and "media copies" of pre-releases in Asia)

ALL Region ALL discs have all 8 flags set, allowing the disc to be played in any locale on any player.

A friend placed a malaysian cdrw or data dvd in my computer and now my cd/dvd player is juddery. Sound and dvd files play fine off the hard drive. It is the mechanical drive that malfunctions. Can you help...

it's not mechanical fault. In DVD drive, there si one thing called "DVD Regional code"

What are regional codes ?

Motion picture studios want to control the home release of movies in different countries because theater releases aren't simultaneous (a movie may come out on video in the U.S. when it's just hitting screens in Europe). Also, studios sell distribution rights to different foreign distributors and would like to guarantee an exclusive market. Therefore they required that the DVD standard include codes to prevent playback of certain discs in certain geographical regions. Each player is given a code for the region in which it's sold. The player will refuse to play discs that are not coded for its region. This means that a disc bought in one country may not play on a player bought in another country. Some people believe that region codes are an illegal restraint of trade, but no legal cases have established this.

The world is split up into 8 DVD regions:

Region 1: U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories
Region 2: Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt)
Region 3: Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong)
Region 4: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean
Region 5: Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia
Region 6: China
Region 7: Reserved
Region 8: Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.)

Old DVD-ROM drives came with a firmware level RPC-1. Software protection was used to control which region is played.

New DVD-ROM drives come with a firmware level RPC-2 with hardware protection. RPC 2 drives have a 5 change limit on regions, once the counter gets to 0 your drive is permanently locked to the last region it was set to. Even if you reformat or move the drive to another system it will still be locked to the last region. There are ways to get around it, some models have resetting tools made by 3rd parties to reset the change limit back to 5 and some also have firmware patches to remove the region lock.

Now as far as solving the problem. Just follow the below instruction.
Windows keeps track of the DVD region and after its initial setting you are allowed to only change it once more. Its possible to reset the counter by performing the following registry change:

Start the registry editor (regedit.exe)

Move to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft

There will be a subkey (the first) of a strange format, e.g. ';t-z% with a single REG_QWORD value

Select the key and delete

Restart the computer

Upon restart you should be able to modify the region again.

I don't think you need to modify as your DVD refional counter will start from 5.

That's it.

DVD's wont play - says wrong region but they are compatible

To change the Region code on your player, open Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device manager, and click on DVD/CD ROM drives, then right click on the DVD drive and click Properties then click on DVD Region.
You can enter a new region and it also shows you how many changes have been made.
NOTE you can make only 4 changes and the player will lock permanently on the 4th change.
If you want to play DVD from any region you maybe able to upgrade the firmware to make it region free BUT if you make a mistake or installed the wrong firmware the player will be a piece of junk.
The best solution to make the player region free is to install a piece of software that allows you to play DVDs from any region. There are several available on the Internet but my favourite is DVD-Region Free

You have to go to the device manager of the operating system. List the hardware. Right click on the actual dvd drive and select the area that you want to change the region to. It will display the region.

Reigon code

The region code for the DVD drive can be change 5 times. After the 5th time, the drive is locked to that region. This is by design, and Dell will not warrant the drive for being locked or help circumvent the DVD Region code system.

You can search google for region code reset and find possible workarounds.

Changing the DVD Region code

Legally, the only way to resolve your issue is a new drive, the region code in the drive has been locked in the firmware and cannot be changed by normal means (You can search google for DVD region Code Cracks, but it is not recommended no legal)

Antipiracy laws mandated a limit to the number of times the Region code can be changed (5) and if you are going to be playing a lot of media from different regions, then get another drive and set it to one region (and mark the region on the drive) and use this for the other
