Question about Sony VAIO V505AX Notebook

1 Answer

Erratic Cursor When I'm typing, the cursor moves to another position automatically and I end up typing in the middle of another word, in my signature block...could be anywhere. Have seen lot of same complaints on the web but no solutions. Is there a fix? Also, shouldn't I have a touchpad tab somewhere(control panel/mouse maybe) that would allow me to adjust sensitivity, tapping, etc? Can't find it anywhere. I'm very computer literate and 99% of time can figure out fixes on my own, so it's not like I don't know where to look. Have Sony Vaio VGN-SZ 240P, Win XP Pro. Thank you, Don

I'm not certain on this, but recently I've had another computer come my way where there was actually malware causing this issue!!! Cursor all over the stinkin' place! You may want to try downloading, installing and running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program, it's free and works great!

Here's the link, it DID work for me on that other computer, let me know what happens for you!

How do I increase the margins on the typewriter

To set a margin beyond the left or right margin, move the carrier (or cursor) to that margin, press the Margin Release key, then proceed to move the carrier (or cursor) to the desired position. Then, press the Left or Right margin key to set the new margin. A beep will sound indicating the new margin has been set. When you set a new left or right margin, the previous margin is automatically cleared.

Alternatively, you can type beyond the right margin by pressing the Margin Release key and then continue typing when the carrier (or cursor) stops at the right margin. To type beyond the left margin, press the Margin Release key and then the Backspace key to move the carrier (or cursor) to the position where you want to start typing.

Samsung labtop cursor jumps around when typing causing all kinds of problems including highlighting and erasing entire lines or sentences!

Press Fn & F10. This disables the touchpad. You will have to use arrows or a mouse to move the cursor. This helps when you are doing a lot of typing. Press the same keys to enable the touchpad when you are finished typing.

Depending on which windows your using.
Goto Start -> Control Panel -> Mouse -> Advance tab. There will be an option for "Automatically default cursor position". The option could be different depending on which windows your using.

Automatically cursor jumps . When we type in the cursor automatically moves fromm one place to another

Hi,
I presume you have a touchpad under your keyboard.
Usually the hand position when you type is such, that it's very easy to involuntarily lighlty touch the touchpad with the base of your thumb, usually the right one, when you move the hand over the touchpad, mostly in the up-left direction.
This causes the cursor to move to some other place, usually up and to the left, resulting in the next characters you type being put in that place :)
Try to keep your hands a little bit more above the touchpad when you type. Also, many touchpad drivers have settings for ignoring light touches/drags, try looking into these settings in your pointing device properties.
As an aid, I would recommend a soft gel wrist support, which automatically elevates your palms above the keyboard.

Cursor won't stay where I move it with the mouse

Hi, your first problem (and possibly second problem) sounds like it's the "Insert" function on your keyboard. I've seen this a lot. Find the Insert key on your keyboard. It's normally off to the right side with the Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down keys. When you have the problem, press the Insert key and then keep typing. It should toggle between the cursor moving with typing, and not. If this was helpful, please rate my response. Thanks!

The cursor moves by itself during typing. It jumps to a position and I find myself typing in the wrong place.

I have found this is usually the small button in the middle of the keyboard (mouse button) I have tried some software to remove this problem but it did not on my laptop I ended up carefully removing the key board and disconnecting the two wires that go to the button My cursors kept moving across the screen

Erratic Cursor Behavior

Are you sure your not touching the pad as you type , a common error, cover the pad with card board or plastic and see.
otherwise you may have a bad touchpad and it needs replaced or re-seated on the cable.
