Most likely it's either the dvd rom or the hard drive is going bad. it's easier to change the hard drive than the dvd rom.

The DVD Drive is bad. Replace it with the same (which I haven't been able to find anywhere on the internet) or one off the shelf (a little jerry-rigging is involved) and it will work. Everything else should be fine. This exact same thing happened to me.

Mine was very DEAD, replaced the DVD thanks to this helpful advice, which I never used anyway with another purchased for $10 at flea market (it was new) and the RCA sprang back to life. I just placed it inside so no one can access it; It makes strange noises but it works and that is all that matters to me! This site is a God send! We record off air programming at our vacation residence where we do not have cable. This device is how we watch TV nightly, we hardly ever watch live TV.

I have plenty of spare power boards so you can replace the whole board vs. components. I can have one shipped at $10 plus shipping.

I want to find a replacement for DRC8030N

you can replace the DVD-RW yourself with any computer DVD/DVD-rw drive.  You will need to modify the way it sits in the unit as the screw holes will be different and some drilling will most likely be needed to make new screw holes.  Finding an original replacement DVD-RW for this unit will be hard because the first problem that this unit has is a constant HELLO message due to a faulty DVD-RW, so they are in high demand.

RCA DRC8030N No output

Connect the unit as you normally would using the composite cables. Once you turn the unit on and the RCA logo flashes and then the video *poof*, dissappears, press the Video Out button on the remote control so that the PS OFF (progressive output for S-Video) is shown on the LCD, this should get the video back to normal.

I need a manual too

No; just follow along when you get notice from this website.
I found a link to http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/en-US/Support.html in the very extensive discussion at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=767130&page=4 ...which led to what you should ask for help by: http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/ (actually, make a trouble ticket at http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/voxrightnow.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=896 )
...which says http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/manual.aspx?product=86 there is no manual.
In brief, you can go to AudioVox to post manuals already, or to Wal~Mart (who sold them) for help...but I'd ask at that forum up at the first link and at the AudioVox ticket system.

Yeah, it was hard to find. RCA's kind of a deprecated brand identity since JVC bought their remains...then sold some to AudioVox.

Maybe our Google-fu just needs some work, but that's all I see around.

Rca drc8030n hello

9 out of 10 the Hello problem lies in the DVD-RW board (I replace this board to correct the problem) and that 1 out of 10 time the problem lies in the main board that the IDEs connect to. I have replaced this board as well to correct such problem. I understand that these spare parts are impossible to come by. If you can make sure that the DVD-RW is fine by hooking it up to your PC and reading from it, then I can send you an RCA DRC8030N with the Hello issue that originates in the DVD-RW (so you can swap out the main board that connects the IDEs) and still have extra parts for later possible problems. If interested, you can contact me via triple w.suncitybargains.ecrater.com Thanks.

RCA DRC8030N Problem

This is due to the DVD-RW drive that is in the unit. This is the first to fail and RCA seems to have gone with the lowest bidder on this model. The DVD-RW drive will need to be replaced. If you used the DVR to watch and burn DVDs then you will need to replace it with any computer DVD-RW but you may need to re-drill some holes to have the replacement drive fit exactly aligned with the DVD door. If you only want to use this DVR for the internal hard drive recording and TV viewing, then any CD or DVD computer drive will do, just simply connect the replacement drive and leave it in the case (you wont have access to the DVD or CD drive under this option). If you do replace the drive, make sure you match up the jumper on the back so that it will be in the same position as in the original DVD drive ( the Master setting). I hope I did not scare you with all this information, but unfortunately, the dreaded HELLO issue with the DRC8030N has no easy fix.

Constant hello's

Constant hello is most likely the DVD drive. if you have a spare, then I would recommend replacing it (it is a computer drive so any will work). If you do not have a spare, then you can go to Ebay or Ecrater and purchase a used DVD drive and pop it in. It is failry easy to do.
