Should be done with your remote. Go to menu and then setup. It should have a selection for cable or antenna.

Magnavox mrv640-accidentally turned on progressive scan

Had exactly the same problem. You need to reset the DVD recorder to it's default setting. The default is "interlaced".

From the users manual.........

Switching the DVD Recorder
1
Disconnect the recorder's power cord.
2 Hold down the FF button (arrow pointing left) the front of the DVD Recorder while
reconnecting the power cord. 'PRO' (progressive scan) will appear
on the display.
3 If you want to switch back, repeat steps 1 and 2 . 'PRO'
(progressive scan) will disappear from the display. The DVD
Recorder is switched to 'Interlaced.'

The manual is at:

See page 12

It worked for me.

Switching from HD to Standard screen gets a pinkish/purplish tint in SD only

It is the cable box. Using the HDMI or DVI output on cable boxes is a bad proposition; for some reason the cable box makers have not figured out how to make the HDMI/DVI output work consistently, something that rarely happens with satellite boxes. Use the component output. You will probably not be able to see a difference in picture quality and your problem will disappear. If you liked this solution, please be sure to rate it. Thanks!

Tv/vcr combo wrong cable channels

This could be one of two problems, either the TV tuner card is set up to accept the wrong type of signals (which normally can be changed in the menu of the television) or the card isn't capable of translating the signal (with most cable companies going over to digital signals with their boxes translating the signals over.) My suggestion is to check to make sure the proper signal type is set in your menu (if in fact this is even an option for this particular television) and if that doesn't work get a generic analog digital cable box.

How do you change from catv to antenna setting on a magnavox 13" combo (TV/VCR)? Also if it matters, we are using a universal remote.

You will need to go to the menu, and go to settings, there you should find selections such as auto tune. if you have not seen the tab to change from tv to catv it usually is found in the auto tuner portion of the menu.
Hope this helps you out.

TV won't work with rabbit ears

You must change the input on the system to be AIR/Antenna , the way it was before was set to cable/dish/DTV.
The tv sees the input different.

Magnavox television

Basic TS - Turn tv off and unplug from wall outlet for 30 seconds. Make sure cable or sat box mute is off. Turn back on. If still no sound, just make sure that a dvd player, vcr or anything else connected to TV has no sound. Check antenna as well as cable or sat channels. If nothing has sound, call a serviceman to check out.

Tv not working

Hello gabed,

The problem may be in your switching power supply or in your high voltage power supply, I would suggest that if you have a background in electronics you do the following.

1) look for any blown fuses and replace them

2) Using a schematic measure the incoming AC voltage and the DC levels on the output of the switching power supply.

3) remove power from the set and take resistance measurements to determine if there is a short circuit anywhere in the DC path.

4) Measure for shorts and opens in the High Voltage section of the set.

These are the usual checks you will have to do.

Now if you don't have a background in electronics, I would suggest that you have a qualified TV technician come over and check your TV set.

I hope this helps,

Thank You,

Shuttle83

This might be a power supply issue either in the switching power supply or in the high voltage power supply. In any case you will need a schematic, a voltage meter, and if possible an oscilloscope to troubleshoot this problem. If you do not have a background in electronics I would suggest that you take the TV to a repair shop.
