Question about Printers & Copiers
We have a Zebra LP2844 Thermal Printer and it was working just fine until we had to switch computers (both running XP). It printed a test page just fine and it printed from Notepad all right as well.
It will not print from a browser though, Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox. The computer will send the print command through and then the little printer icon in the system tray will just disappear after a while, without any errors - as if it printed just fine.
We're trying to use the printer for FedEx shipping labels and it won't print any of those (none whatsoever).
If we send a print command directly to the Zebra printer from the browser, it'll (sometimes) print faded lines across the label. Same with our attempts to print an e-mail (from Outlook Express).
Am I missing a step here?
I posted this problem last week and since that time discovered the problem (at least for me). I had to replace the HD and failed to update a current version of Java. Without Java in place I could call for it to print but the print job would disappear into thin air. After installing a current version of Java the machine began printing again and has worked perfectly.

Yes, Fedex use java to print the labels so by installing java works for me. Thanks 11Roberts!!

I have no idea if this is a solution but I am aware of a definite problem. Many LP2844s are actualy P2543, a similar printer mass produced for UPS. Refurbishers scratch off the label and sell as LP2844.
LP2844 requires DC 20V 2.5A, all have USB ports
LP2543 requires AC 16V 4A, only serial and parallel
I think for the most part it works as an LP2844 does, but if someone tries to replace the adapter, or tries to update firmware, or is trying to use it with Endicia for Mac (built in drive for LP2844), it causes problems.

I have been having a similar problem - I don't have it completely sorted out, but here are two tips:
First of all, in one of the pages available from Fed-Ex's website, there is a small - almost unreadable note - that says that you cannot use a USB connection to a thernal printer when using the software on fedex.com. You must use serial or parallel (LPT1, etc). I had suspected this and found out the hard way before I saw the note.
The second thing (also mentioned in a small, slightly more readable note) is that one needs to completely remove all "legacy" LP2844 drivers before (re-)installing the newer ones.
The way to see whether you have these older drivers is to go to 'Printers and Faxes' from 'Settings', then from the 'File' menu look for 'Server Settings'. From 'Server Settings' you will see a tab for drivers.
If there is an entry for "'Nt 4.0 or Windows 2000" then you have one of the older drivers, and you (apparently) need to use the FED ex removal tool to take this away.
I have to finish this setup tomorrow - if I am successful I will post additional material here.
