SOURCE: dremel 400 xpr stopped working.

It could be the fuse between the brush and variable speed control switch. I have the same problem and found the fuse blown. I am hoping that I can replace the fuse without having to buy the complete speed control unit which is about $17.00 from Dremel. If yours is still under warranty you could send it back. If I can find a fuse for mine I will let you know where to get them. joatmontag

If you have a volt/ohms meter It is a process of elimination. First unplug tool and remove the brushes turn the switch on and check for continuity to the brush holders and if none work backwards start with the cord and then the switch etc until the problem is found.

Do the copper bushings that hold the arms in place on a dremel scroll saw 1830 act as electrical conductors?

The bushings are designed as bearing surface for the saw. They do not conduct electricity. There are however, 'brushes' inside of the motor that may be at fault. Secondly, there may be an alignment problem with the scroll arm, or frozen bushing there that is causing the trouble.

The pot metal in front of thequick release tension lever has broken and fell out. can I still use the saw If not where do I go to get another one 1830 120v 18inch scroll saw dremel

I believe the part you are looking for is called a "locking rod" dremel part number 2610922661, this is the black painted pot metal that is about 3" long attached to the upper arm rocker with a parallel pin, and the flip clamp (blade tensioning assembly) or it could be the small piece attached to the tension assembly that the blade attaches to which is silver and called the "blade holder assembly-top" part number 2610922683. I would recommend ordering both directly from Dremel CS 1-800-437-3635. I broke the locking rod on mine. I emailed dremel, and they emailed me back the next morning with a schematic, and parts list. I bought 2 and paid $10.41 total.

My dremel multi max has a problem with the switch. When I turn it on, it works for awhile then stops, then starts back up... ???? I have to fiddle with it to get it going for 10 or 15 seconds, then the...

Most of our issues with Dremel tools is with the plastic brush holder. If the tool is used for exetnded periods of time or 'leaned' on too much the holder will get hot enough melt and keep the brushes from contacting the armature properly. Try taking your brushes out, if they don't slide in and out of the holder freely you may need to file or cut away any plastic that is holding the brushes off the armature. This may require you taking the brush holder out so you don't damage the armature. Be careful with the brush holder, it is not available as a replacement part.
