Right she turns on the rockband to just play the guitar or drums and it will say something like: can not detect microphone...does it have to be hooked up to the wii if she isn't wanting to use it and just wants to use the guitar?

ok still not sure if it is working yet or not-we did try to hook up the guitar for the rockband but don't know how to do that either and no directions-there are blue lights blinking but can't figure out how to get them to know work with the game....any ideas on that?

But to connect the guitar-so it sync's with the wii- don't you have to hold one or two buttons down that is on the guitar--if so we did this held two buttons down, then tried hold each one down at a time....we have tried different ways it will not connect should I reset the game again?

Was your mic hooked up when the system was turned on? The mic is probably signed in. The mic needs to be reconnected and signed out. Or reboot the whole system with what you want to use plugged in only.

If they are plugin style look for the USB ports. If its wireless, look on the guitar for a little button that would reset the link. Push it with the Wii running and game loaded.

I have a harmonix wireless guitar and a wired drumset. Neither will respond, though they both show a blue light. I'm playing rockband 3 with rockband 1 instruments. Only the mic works and I have no idea why. Of course, I've tried new batteries in guitar, re-synced, powered on and off.. to no avail. Suggestions? Its a new in box set.

I bought drums at a garage sale. I thought they were for Rockband Wii. I bought Rockband 1 for Wii, but I can't get the drums to sync. The screen keeps indicating it can't detect a microphone,...

If the buttons that you have are 1, 2, A, B, then you have the Rockband drums for Wii (the ones for Xbox have X, Y, A, B). You don't need a microphone to play Rockband, you just need to have a Wii remote on when you start the game. That should get rid of the pesky "Can't Detect Microphone" message and let you get to the main game screen to play the rest of the game. Have fun!

I dealt with Beatles Rockband Wii on 2 systems with 2 different configurations.
  1. Wireless Drum kit configuration. The Drum USB Transmitter has 2 additional USB ports, that allow Guitar/mic to be connected, plus there is the remaining USB port on the Wii
  2. Wired Drum kit comes with a 4 port USB hub, connect the hub to the Wii, and connect all instruments to the USB hub.
The Wii will only allow 4 controllers connected at once. So if you have multiple Wii Motes, then you may have to disconnect all but the one used for the Mic player (Press 1 on the Wii mote to unsync or remove the batteries)

Unfortunately, the guitar that comes with the Guitar Hero does not work with Rock Band or Rock Band 2. Rock Band, as you mentioned, recognizes the Wiimote as the controller for the microphone.

Unfortunately, you will have to get a guitar that is specifically designed for Rock Band.

I know this isn't the answer that is popular, but if you vote for my solution, please vote at least "Thanks for Trying".

Thanks for using Fixya!

Playing Rock Band 2 without a microphone

you have to use the green and red keys on the guitar to navigate the software...not the WII remote if you want to use the guitar.. THe WII remote is ONLY used for the Microphone.

On the drums you use the red and Green drum to navigate for the drum...not the WII remote....

I got my daughter Wii Rockband-she is so mad and me to because we can't figure out how to let her play it-like play the guitar without the microphone-everytime she tries to play it, it says it doesn't...

Rock Band is a 4 player game, each player taking their own role. They can choose from Guitar, Bass, Drums or Microphone. If your daughter wants to play guitar and sing at the same time, she will need to play a multiplayer game and use 2 Mii profiles, one for guitar and one for singing.
A single player cannot play 2 instruments using the same Mii either. You must use separate profiles.

Can't use drums for rockband on guitar world tour

The instruments for Rock Band and GH:WT are compatible on the PS3 and the Xbox 360, not the Wii. Blame Activision, the creators of GH:WT - they went a different route with hardware for the Wii that made things incompatible.
