Question about Dishwashers

Open Question

Frigidaire MDB122LBS1 water not circulating

A few months after moving in to our home, the dishwasher began taking all of the food soil from the dishes on the bottom rack and depositing it in/on the dishes on the top rack. I started by checking the rotation of the top arm (mark position, run for a few seconds, check for movement) and confirmed that it was not rotating. I took apart the upper and lower arms and found no major clogs/debris in them. I cleaned out the drain/trap area and found a few coin sized pieces of glas, but again, no major clogs. I can't really get the washer out of the cabinets due to an over-ambitious remodel by a previous owner that laid subfloor over the front feet, and permanently attached the countertop to the cabinets. I'm not ready to replace the surrounding cabinets until after the spring thaw, but I would like to try and further troubleshoot the problem in-place.

If I am able to get the pump out, how would I go about testing it?

Thanks in advance!

The seals that the racks "plug" into need replaced. Ours had the same issue and replaced the seals and it works fine now.

Hello

Ensure the Frigidaire dishwashing machine is fully connected to a power supply. Shut the dishwasher door firmly and select a wash cycle. Press "Start" to begin. Check that the "delay start" option was not selected.

  • 2 Verify that dishwashing detergent is placed in the dispenser and choose a longer washing cycle for heavily soiled items. Do not overload the dishwasher, as this may prevent proper cleaning.
  • 3 Check the household water pressure, which should be between 20 and 120 PSI (pounds per square inch). A water pressure gauge can be obtained at most home repair stores or hardware stores.
  • 4 Turn on the hot water at the sink closest to the dishwasher prior to starting the dishwasher to raise the water temperature inside the dishwasher. Check the hot water temperature, which should be at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit for proper cleaning.
  • 5 Check the spray arms in the dishwasher and move dishes that may be blocking the water spray or preventing the spray arms from rotating properly.

Glasses and frying pans not clean at end of cycle. Residue on glasses and cups, food particles on frying pans.

it's generally not a good idea to put really greasy items in a dishwasher along with relatively clean items such as glassware and plates and cutlery, as most recent good quality dishwashers come with a soil sensor that ends the wash cycle once the dishes appear clean, and all the grease from your frying pan will cause the soil sensor to take longer to detect clean water.

    Dishes not cleaning

Are the dishes wet? If they are then maybe the dishwasher was over loaded and the spray jets were not able to wash the dishes. Check the jets to make sure they are not obstructed. If nothing else then the pump is not circulating the water to wash the dishes. Good Luck

Crud & crumbs left on dishes

Most dishwashers have a soil separator which separates the soil from the water while it's washing. When a wash cycle is over a valve opens in the separator to allow the soil to go down the drain. If it's not working properly the washer will leave a film or food particles on the dishes.

Here are your diagrams and parts. I noticed a filter and trap which could be your problem. Make sure the water is spraying out the spray arms good.

Dishwasher leaving debri and food partical on dishes. the top arm seams to be not moving but water is getting threw.

top arms are normally free-wheeling, depending on water pressure from beneath to operate and distribute the rinse water. Is it possible you have dishes or utensils being placed in the top rack which would prohibit the arm from turning?

Check the screen in the bottom of the washer for debris. Remove the screen and clean out the impeller with your hand or an old toothbrush. Also check your vent hose coming out of your garbage disposal. This can clog and cause problems. Hope this helps your problem.

Water is not circulating. machine runs full cycle but when opened, soap is in a mushy lump, not dispersed or dissolve, and dishes are still soiled

When was the last time you cleaned you drain filter? That should be done routinely .. If that's clogged then the the sediment from other cycles just gets redistributed on your dishes.. You might also check the washing arm that spins for debris or clogs.. Try cycling it without any dishes a few times to see if all the water drains out after a cycle.. That will help you identify if its a drain problem or if the system needs other service.. Hope that helps !
