Try buying a external case and putting the hard drive in the new case.

Yes it does make a large difference. I did a search on that drive and there a lot of people who had good luck getting a replacement from the manufacturer. As far as a case is concerned I recently purchased one off of amazon and it was very inexpensive. Just look up "drive enclosure" on amazon.

If it still has a valid warranty, exercise the warranty to get a free replacement.

Otherwise, open the enclosure, and separate the disk-drive from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter, and connect the disk-drive as a 'slave' disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if the adapter was the problem.

I can not locate a driver for my Fantom Titanium II (TFD500C16) 500 GB USB Hard Drive. Do you know where?

Your device should not need drivers Fte Fantom/Titanium drives are fully supported by both Windows and Mac OS's.
Try replacing the cable or using a different USB port.
Sorry I cannot be of more help, The drive itself may be damaged, You can test this by physically removing the drive itself from the case and installing it internally to your system....If the drive functions properly, then the problem is within the board inside the casing.

Sounds like the drive has gone faulty, all you can do is take drive out of case, get USB to HDD - USB "Dongle" and hook up HDD, and see if it works on PC & USB, If YES, then Case and interface are faulty, otherwise the HDD is faulty.

Fantom hard drive not working

When you hear that clicking noise that is the head and it is stuck. At this point the only way to recover the data is send it to a recovery expert firm. The issue is that the head(the part that reads the data) is stuck and essentially beyond normal repair. There truly isnt much you can do I am sorry to say

After opening it up, was the 500GB disk-drive WARM or COLD to the touch? If WARM, the drive was spinning. If COLD, check that the drive is getting "power" from your USB port, or from the AC adapter.

Can you remove the disk-drive, and temporarily connect it to another computer, to see if it is a problem with the enclosure and/or the external power-supply, rather than just the disk-drive?

Is the disk-drive still under warranty ?
Original manufacturer's warranty?
Extended warranty purchased from the retail store?
Extended warranty offered by your credit-card company?

Drive not being recognized

Have you tried this in another PC with, say, WinXP? If it worked then it may be 1 of 2 problems:
1) Driver Issue- you may use a compatible driver and not necessarily a "Fantom" driver. WinME needs drivers for these devices unlike WinXP
2) The USB port is not giving enough power to the drive for it to run (a problem common in older PCs). I have an external USB harddisk that needs to use 2 USB ports in my old Dell laptop since 1 USB port can't supply the power it needs. The cable should have a dual-USB jack on one end, this is so you could use the power from the other USB port.

Hope this helps
