Re: my dell 720 printer
Normally thats a sign of a printer driver error, remove the printer and go to add/remove programmes and remove the dell/lexmark printer driver.
You will need your installation cd you got with the printer, so re install the software/driver and then re connect the printer when promped and try printing again.
The drivers can be downloaded from here if you have no cdrom, but if the solution doesnt work, then the printer may need replacing, as it's not economical to repair.

If you have flashing RED and GREEN LEDs on your Dell 1110 your printer will need servicing by the Dell service department. It is hard to say what is wrong without looking at the printer in person but those two lights together spell trouble not easily fixed. It could be a damaged circuit board or component. This typically has nothing to do with ink, paper jams, etc.
The problem you are facing is a hardware issue try power cycling the printer by taking out the power cable and wait for 3 minutes and try to turn it back on if the issue still persists contact the manufacturer.
There is a small rubber belt that moves the print head back and forth. If it is out of alignment it may seem to fly too quickly across the silver track to the opposite side of the printer making a big "thunk" when it hits! This usually happens right after changing a cartridge and USUALLY fixes itself. Don't worry, the printer won't break from it.
Next, the print becoming lighter may just be the print head wearing out. If you've tried the print head cleaning procedure that is included with the software and it's still too light, it's likely that you use the printer heavily and it's just worn out. If that is the case, I would highly recommend a printer that is designed for heavier usage. It will cost a little more, but the print cartridges are about the same price, they usually print a little faster, and they last about 5 times longer than a standard consumer version.
Lastly, if you installed Explorer 7 and are having problems, you need to make sure you have the appropriately up-to-date operating system software. You don't necessarily need the newest version of Windows for example, but you need to make sure that the service pack for your current software is up to date. Explorer 7 doesn't seem to work and play well with old Windows versions and older Mac OS.
I have the same issue....two flashes of the light on the power button the repeat. The carrier is clear, so I don't know what else to do. Also, when I turn the power on, the carrier goes back and forth, hitting the sides very LOUDLY! Anyone else having this issue? This printer is a few years old, so no warranty, and of course, I just bought replacment ink for it, so now it won't work..worked fine till the ink ran out this time! PLEASE HELP!
That piece of plastic that is out of the machine helps the print head to know where its at on the paper think of it as a guide of a sort you may be able to place it back in.I wouldn't turn the printer back on until the part is put back in you may damage it beyond repair.
