First of all, I checked the answers given here, but nothing worked; everytime I turned on the unit, the red light flashed that the printer was out of paper.
From the Brother's HL-2070 manual, in the troubleshooting section: take out the toner cartridge from the front of the machine (be careful, any black toner powder that come off may be very difficult to clean up). I took the toner cartridge to the sink.
There is a blue slide along the top of the unit that will clean the corona wire if you slide it back and forth, from one end to the other (toner/dust can become caked on the wire over time; sliding the slider back and forth simply knocks the caked off 'stuff' off of the wire).
Replace the toner cartridge; it worked fine for me. I was immediately able to print.
1. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER 2. Release RESUME 3. Press RESUME twice, then release POWER 4. Let green light blink until printer is done futzing
Select function with RESUME press POWER to execute: presses - light color - function
Number of presses - light color - function 0 presses - green - Test print (or exit service mode on i960) 1 press - orange - EEPROM info print (plus grid nozzle diagnostic on i850) 2 presses - green - EEPROM initialize 3 presses - orange - Reset waste ink counter
Try keeping the paper only in the bottom tray (there's a tray in the bottom) Try pulling any paper out of the top and just close that top tray. Open up the head so that u can see the ink cartridges and turn the printer on and off and maybe it will center itself again. If it's still not working (even if lights aren't red and print head wont align in the center) try manually moving the head back and forth like 18 times so you can lubricate that rail in the back that's holding it. After that, re-turn it off and on again.
Normally thats a sign of a printer driver error, remove the printer and go to add/remove programmes and remove the dell/lexmark printer driver.
You will need your installation cd you got with the printer, so re install the software/driver and then re connect the printer when promped and try printing again.
The drivers can be downloaded from here if you have no cdrom, but if the solution doesnt work, then the printer may need replacing, as it's not economical to repair.
