WPA requires an group of alpha numeric sequences for encrypting data between the wireless card on the computer and the wireless access point/router.
These sequences are hard to remember when setting up the wireless Access point/router soa passphase is used to generate these alpha numeric sequences, just use any english phrases such as "I love you 2 pieces", then this can be used to configure your wireless card on your computer.

My linksys wpc54g repeatedly says "network cable unplugged" then reconnects

WPC54g is a wireless adapter. The message that you are getting is the message for the Local area connection. This message has nothing to do with the WPC54G. This message is for the wired connection and not for the wireless connection.

I have this product and Im trying to install it in the computer Wireless-G Notebook Adapter WPC54G

Go to this website on a computer where you can download the drivers. http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WPC54G/download Copy the downloaded file onto a USB drive (thumb drive) and then install the driver from the USB drive onto your laptop before you insert the wireless adapter card into the laptop. After the driver installation is complete, then install the card into your laptop and it should be recognized and after a couple of minutes, should be ready to go.

Do I have to configure my WPC54G to accept a signal from a wireless-b router...I cant get it to connect

You may have to login to your router and verify that it is broadcasting in 802.11b and 802.11g for the card to see the router.

Otherwise it should connect without a problem

WPC54G wont install power light is on

The problem is that the PCI slot/socket where the wireless adapter is snapped/connected is not not compatible with the adapter. I suppose that the adapter is more more faster than than socket so it can hardly function as it should. I recommend that you return the adapter and get a slower version of the adapter. Make sure that the drivers are properly installed by removing/uninstalling any previous software from the system.

Linksys WPC54G Wireless-G Notebook... Problem:

Your computer locking up could be a spyware or virus program taking over your machine as soon as you get an internet connection.

Try connecting the laptop to a wired connection and see if it does the same thing.
Run some virus scans from trend micro.

If you can re-install the software for the wireless card. This might help too.

Firefox can freeze your system but highly unlikely from a fresh install.

best wishes.

"WPC54G is not installed"

Those install programs that Linksys uses are terrible. This happens all the time.

You probably can't use the linksys program to install the software on a Windows 2000 machine you should be able to install just the driver you need. I have never used wireless networking on a Win 2000 computer before. Win XP has sotware already built into the operating systems to deal with wireless networking.

Uninstall all Linksys wireless networking software. Restart you computer with the wirless network card install and let Windows search for the correct drivers on the CD.
