Your inverter circuit board or its connectors/cables to display are fault. You should better take your laptop for repair.

On acer aspire laptop screen is grey at startup

Hello,

1. When you press the power button to turn it on, do you see any thing on screen, It probably should show an ACER logo?

2. Can you see a faint image of your desktop (try to see it in dark place with flash light). If you do see a faint image it could mean your back light is broken.

3. When you press the power button do you get different LED's lighting up on the laptop? IE power LED, hard drive LED?

4. Does your computer give you any random beeps when it starts up?

Please answer these questions and I would be more than happy to work through this with your.

Thanks RCCT

HP 2000 POWER BTN FLSAHES DARK SCREEN

Try removing the power supply, battery, hard drive and RAM. Plug in the power supply and press power. If the screen recovers, add the RAM followed by hard drive. If it stops working at any point, that is the issue. If it still doesn't work, I suspect a GPU issue. (Possible overheating). If it now works, maybe a bad connection.

This is an older model laptop. Most online videos today are encoded using high ratio codecs like H.264, which require a lot of processing power to be able to decode in full screen full motion high definition (720p or better) video. Typically, you need either a newer dual core processor or a display adapter that is capable of hardware H.264 decoding to do this.
If the video you're trying to watch is available in a lower definition, you may have more luck with that (in youtube, it's in the lower right corner - the number with a "p" at the end, pick 480p or lower). Otherwise, I'd say it's time for an upgrade.

Compaq V3424au that has a blank screen on startup with all lights

You could have a defective LCD screen, If the laptop appears to be booting up and running and the hard disk is spinning and the hard disk LED light is flashing but the screen is dark then, to determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Backlights started reducing all on its own untill totally dark.

Hi there.
The problem you describe is a failing or faulty inverter board, this is located just under the screen behind the plastic surround.
This is a common problem across all makes and models of laptops and some LCD monitors.
If your machine is covered by the manufacturers warranty, take advantage and send the laptop to be repaired free.
If your out of warranty you will have to take the laptop to a PC technician for repair, it should not cost that much for that type of repair.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Dark Screen

The back light is bad in your monitor. This is the light source that gives light to the image on your screen so that you can see it. This is a common thing to go wrong with a laptop. You can take it to someone to be repaired or if you are handy you can buy the part and replace it yourself.

Toshiba satellite m40 booting problem.

Hi! It appears that possibly your hrad drive isn't set properly in the caddy? with the laptop powered down and disconnected locate the hard drive cover pop out the two locating screws and carefully move the caddy/hard drive BEWARE as the drive has fragile pins at the opposite end where you opened, hopefully little sliding pressure should remove. Check the retaining screws around the caddy (You'll need a small torx/philips screw driver for this) if all tight replace gently.
If you are uncertain I would recommend a technician check it for you.
Good Luck!

System on but screen dark

I had this problem with my Dell laptop as well. It may not be the solution, but if your laptop is older, the LCD power inverter may be burnt out. If that's the case, it's about a 50 dollar fix. See if you can take a flash light to the screen and if you can see what's on the screen, but it's very dark, this LCD inverter may be the problem.

Screen went dark (almost completely)

check your power cord and make sure it's plugged in all the way, and if it is, check your brightness setting.

Usually it's the Fn key + an arrow key. Make sure the brightness is up all the way
