Most of the time, you can resolve this error by updating the device driver for the faulty device. To update the driver, select the system option from the Control Panel. In the System Properties dialog box, select the hardware tab, and then select the device manager button. Scroll through the Device Manager window and identify the faulty hardware device. Right-click on this device and then select the update driver command. Next, follow the screen instructions to update the driver of the selected device.
And make sure you download the driver from the manufacturers website

it sounds like you got a bad device. if the drivers installed with no errors i would return the device and try another one.

What is the device? USB or Daughtercard?

Or if you are running windows xp you can try this fix. But it is messing with the registry so be careful. Scroll down to advanced troubleshooting and follow the directions carefully

Try going to the motherboard manufacturer site and see if there are any updates available for the motherboard controllers or anything. I am leaving the office now but will look this up more at home

Dvd player will not play, check the device manager in windows 7 there's a yellow question mark on the Dvd device.. Open the device, under device status it says the device cannot start (code 10). How can I...

Typically related to a bad driver. You can try right clicking the device and select "Update Device Driver", search automatically. If it doesn't find one you may need to delete the driver completely and re-install it. It shout be at C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys

Dvd player doesn t work

The Code 10 error is one of several Device Manager error codes. The Code 10 error will almost always display in the following way:
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
Details on Device Manager error codes like Code 10 are available in the Device Status area in the device's properties: How To View a Device's Status in Device Manager.
Important: Device Manager error codes are exclusive to Device Manager. If you see the Code 10 error elsewhere in Windows, chances are it's a system error code which you should not troubleshoot as a Device Manager issue.
Cause of the Code 10 Error
A Code 10 error is generated when Device Manager can't start the hardware device, a situation usually caused by outdated or corrupted drivers.
A device may also receive a Code 10 error if a driver generates an error that Device Manager doesn't understand. In other words, a Code 10 error can sometimes be a very generic message indicating some kind of unspecified driver or hardware problem.
Error Code 10 Troubleshooting
1.Restart your computer if you haven't done so already.
There is always the chance that the error Code 10 you're seeing on a device was caused by some temporary problem in Device Manager or with the hardware. If so, a reboot might fix the Code 10 error.

2.Did you install a device or make a change in Device Manager just before the Code 10 error appeared? If so, it's very possible that the change you made caused the Code 10 error.
Undo the change if you can, restart your PC, and then check again for the Code 10 error.
Depending on the changes you made, some solutions might include:
•Remove or reconfigure the newly installed device.
•Roll back the driver to a version prior to your update.
•Use System Restore to undo recent Device Manager related changes.
3.Reinstall the drivers for the device. Uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers for the device is a likely solution to a Code 10 error.
Important: If a USB device is generating the Code 10 error, uninstall every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers hardware category in Device Manager as part of the driver reinstall. This includes any USB Mass Storage Device, USB Host Controller, and USB Root Hub.

6 to 4 adapter no working and 1 Sat adapter #2 adapter not on, so I cant connect to internet, how can I fix this

I would like to bring to your notice one of the issue that came across with a Vista based PC of a EU who reported in his mail that in "Device" manager their are 6 to 4 adaptor is listing by name itself and for this he is unable to install any drivers as it is showing that the drivers are not installed for it. Even though EU is able to browse the internet.

Normally the above issue is related to TCP/IP transmission protocol that uses by Vista. As Vista by default support IPv6 TCP/IP protocol for data transmission over the network. 6to4 adapter is a component used for transmitting IPv6 packets trough IPv4 network correctly. If the drivers for this component is not properly installed or corrupted there will be a code 31 or code 10 error appearing beside this component. You may update the driver for your network adapter or chipset, and then try to uninstall and reinstall the this component as mentioned below. I am enclosing a snapshot of the issue along with the mail so that you can also have a clear idea of the issue.

=======Uninstalling 6to4 Adaptor==========

1. Click on Windows icon, and enter device manager into the Start Search field.
2. Right Click on all 6to4 adaptor and select uninstall from the droplist.

=====Reinstalling 6to4 Adaptor===========

1. Click on Windows icon, and enter device manager into the Start Search field.
2. From the device manager window select "Action".
3. Select "Add Legacy Hardware".
4. Click on Next.
5. Select "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list".
6. Select Network adapters from the window.
7. Select "Microsoft" from left window.
8. From right window select "Microsoft 6to4 Adapter"
9. Click on next and finish the wizard.

After performing the above steps issue shoule get resolve. If the issue persist then, I request you to disable this device in device manager. By disabling this it will not effect your internet browsing or your wireless conectivity, as Microsoft also confirm this in their database. In order to disable this device perform the below said steps.

1. Click on Windows icon.
2. Select Accessories.
3. Right click on "Command" prompt.
4. Select "Run as administrator".

Once the command window open, type the below said command.

netsh in 6to4 set state disable

After typing the above command press enter key on the keyboard.

After performing the above steps restart the PC.

Has the toshiba a60 laptop got an onboard wireless adapter, cos i have been told that mine has a conflicting problem with the wireless adapter i have tried to install

Hi suze26,

Yes, your laptop came with 10/100 ethernet card and 802.11g wireless. You can try to un-install this device temporally to see if the conflict clears. If not you may need to go to your manufacturer for updated drivers. Try this: click Start>control panel>system, click on hardware tab choose device manager, look for network adapters click to see the adapters installed on your computer, choose the the 802.11g and un-install. Reboot, windows will detect new hardware and reinstall the network adapter, check to see if conflict has cleared. I hope this helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.com

Sincerely, cyyyd7

I am currently experiencing codes 1 and 10 when looking at the properties for the DIGI AccelePort 8r 920 card, i would like to know what these codes mean. I have been unable to load the driver for this...

CODE 1 - System Failure - No Config Flags (Not Configured).

Verify you have the latest driver installed for your device. You may also be able to resolve this issue by removing the device in Device Manager and going through the Add New Hardware Wizard in Control Panel.

CODE 10 - Device Failed to start.

Even this error code indicates that you may not have the latest drivers for the DIGI Acceleport card.

CD ROM not working

from microsofts site:

Code 10 loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); If the device has a "FailReasonString" value in its hardware key, that string is displayed as the error message. The driver or enumerator places this registry string value there. If there is no "FailReasonString" in the hardware key, the following generic error message is displayed:
This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. (Code 10)

Try upgrading the device drivers for this device.
Solution button: Update Driver

To resolve this error code, make sure the device is connected to the computer correctly. For example, make sure all cables are plugged in fully and that all adapter cards are properly seated. Follow the suggested solution button and update the device driver. It may be possible to remove the device and redetect it using the Add New Hardware wizard
