Trouble installing xp on a hp pavilion t3000

Have tried to make a clean install of xp on my brothers hp pavilion t3000. it used to have a "recovery partition" with preinstalled xp on it. booted from cd and partitioned and formatted the hd.

all went well with copying of files to the hd, but after the computer restarted to start install it halted with a blue screen saying that either the hd was infected with virus or that a newly installed hd was malfunctioning.

i deleted all old partitions on the hd including the recovery partition. could it be that maybe parts of the old mbr is still intact and "remembers" that there should be a recovery partition?

Use the Windows Xp CD to format the hhd twice.
install the OS from the CD without partition.
you can always partition the hhd later.

My computer is saying that the system is not fully installed and all I want to do is to resite it to its factory settings

Which operating system ?????.....
The HP Recovery Partition that comes pre-installed on most new HPs is like built-in insurance if your system becomes unstable or fails.
If the problem is severe enough, you may not be able to start the HP Desktop Recovery Manager from Windows but you can start it manually by following the steps below.

Disconnect all peripheral devices and power on the computer.
Press the F11 key after the computer first powers on to start the HP Recovery Manager.

Follow the on-screen instructions to back up recoverable files on the hard drive to an external drive or media.
Continue following the instructions to recover the hard drive to its original factory condition.
Click "Finish" when the recovery is complete.
Reconnect devices and reboot the computer.
Reinstall software and update Windows and HP to current settings.

Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows Vista)

HP Pavilion Recovery Partition
Accessing the recovery partition on your HP Pavilion laptop allows you to restore your computer to speed it up, eliminate a virus or repair your Windows operating system.
The Recovery Manager program makes it possible to restore your laptop to its settings as of a previous date or restore your computer to its original factory settings, which will erase all of your installed programs and personal data.
Using the recovery partition allows you to bypass the hassle of keeping track of recovery discs, which could be damaged in storage, rendering them useless when you need them.

Turn on or restart your HP Pavilion laptop.
Press "F11" when the "Press <F11> for recovery" message appears during the HP Pavilion boot process.
Select "Recovery Manager" from your list of recovery options and press "Enter."
The Recovery Manger program will open on your screen, and you can begin the recovery process.
Access Recovery Manager Within Windows
Click the "Start" icon or "Start" button in the lower left corner of your Windows home screen.
Click "All Programs" and then "Recovery Manager."
Click "Recovery Manager" again to open the Recovery Manager program on your HP Pavilion laptop.

Factory restore HP Pavilion Dv2910us

when doing a boot menu you need to either constantly bash the key in or hold it in (depends on the bios some are very fiddly) then once your through that you need to do a "factory reset" by re-installing your system (this requires a disk for your software) you then need to delete the c// drive partition including your system memory (system memory applies to windows vista upwards) then install it to the unpartitioned hard drive. Theres no such button for a factory reset. If you need more information or need to be talked through it send me a message on here.

How do i reset my hp computer back to the way i bought it?

factory settings could mean performing a system restore to a previous state of the OS. I'll try to explain how you can perform each one of these methods in the article below.
Restore Factory Settings - System Restore System Restore is the in-built tool of Windows XP and Windows Vista that allows you to roll back the registry to a previous state. Note that it only "restores" previous settings for the registry and Windows system files.
You can use system restore to get rid of spyware, but if system restore does not fix your problem, you'll have to resort to either a clean install of the OS or using your recovery CD/DVDs.
You can read my previous post on how to restore your computer using the System Restore feature. If system restore is disabled, you can read my post on how to enable system restore again.

Restore Factory Settings - Recovery CD/DVDs Most computers come with either a recovery CD/DVD or a recovery partition that is hidden on the computer. This is true for most HP and Dell machines now these days.
If you have one of these, you can access the recovery from within Windows or during startup.
For HP, you can go to Start, All Programs, HP Tools, and then choose HP PC System Recovery.

You can also press the F10 key multiple times during bootup to get access to the recovery console in case Windows is not loading properly.
On Dells, you can access the recovery partition by pressing Ctrl + F11 immediately after the machine is turned on.
Note that all of your data will be lost on the hard drive. Using a recovery CD is not the same as repairing XP. When you repair Windows XP, all of the system files are replaced with the original ones, but your data and applications remain intact.
Restore Factory Settings - Clean Install XP Your last and final option for restoring XP to factory settings is to perform a clean install. This requires having the CD/DVD for the OS. If you only have a hidden recovery partition, you will not be able to perform a clean install.
A clean install basically consists of booting from the original XP CD, deleting all partitions, recreating new partitions, and then installing Windows XP from CD.
It's a fairly straight-forward process and you can read this excellent tutorial for step by step instructions. Again, it's important to note that you will lose all your data in this process.

I have Windows Vista Home edition installed in My Compaq Presario 700. I have been experiencing a slow down in the performance from last 3 days. So tried to install Windows XP. But It immediately shows...

You need to format the drive so back up all docs etc that you want to keep and then boot from the install disc (make sure it's an install disc NOT an upgrade) then you will see an option to format and partition the drive. The problem is that Vista is an upgrade from xp, and it won't allow you to downgrade.

yes you'll have to format the drive before you put xp on...you can use a boot disk with something like fdisk on it...you can boot using a HIREN boot disk (which has FDISK on it) or Roadstarter which is a bootable CD with a whole host of utilities including FDISK.....
or boot with a windows XP disk and choose the repair with console option ...at the command prompt type in FDISK and you will wipe all the data and partition tables ....giving you a raw data drive to install Win XP to

Windows not installing

Sir please specify the Operating system which you want to install.

You can perform the following troubleshooting steps.

1) Your computer comes with a preinstalled operating system. The model also have recovery partition ( mostly in your D: drive) for installing Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium. You can use this recovery partition to install the operating system...

2) If you have created Recovery disks from the recovery partition then you can install the operating system from those disks.

3) If you have deleted the recovery partition and your recovery disks are damaged, then if your Notebook is under warranty , you can get recovery disks from HP with out any cost( FREE).
