i) Open My Documents folder
ii) Then go to Tools menu
iii) Folder Options=>a Folder option box pops out
iv) Here you click on the View tab =>go to the advance Settings section=>count nine check boxes down from the top and on the tenth you have "HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES"
v) Uncheck this box and click OK
vi) Now go to the file which will have something like these now E.g Boss.docx
vii) Right-click on the file select rename=> delete the "X" in Boss.doc(x) only and press enter
viii) A message box titled Rename will appear saying "IF YOU CHANGE A FILE NAME EXTENSION,THE FILE MAY BECOME UNUSABLE. Are You Sure You Want To Change It"
ix) Click yes

How do I open a word document using open office ? how do I migrate from using microsoft word to open office

Hello there!

Its easy, just save any format file you want on word document doesnt really matter is it doc, or docx file, enter open office go to main tab, file, open, select that doc, docx, file extension, open it and here you go. You can also save any file in open office to fit windows office packages .

Cannot open a file from docx documents

Hello there!

Well that problem can be caused only if you are using older version of microsoft office 2007. If you have MS2003 package, and trying to open docx file extensions that will not work, but you are able to use docx extensions with MSoffice2007 package. In your question you put that you already use MS office 2007 package,so i suggest your docx extension is somehow corrupted.

If you had downloaded it from the internet please redownload it again.

If that was your work try to save it in doc format 1st then in docx if you want to enable only msoffice2007 users to use it. Good luck ! =)

Please rate my solutions! =)

Sincerely
Aleksandar Adzic

Try upgrading your MS-Office package to office 2000. in that you have to option to convert and you no need to convert as it opens directly.
You can try this http://www.docx2doc.com/converters/docx-to-doc Please rate this!!
