Remove the case. This is done placing the tip of a flat blade screwdriver in the the slots on the bottom front edge of the printer and prying up gently start at one side and work your way across.

With the case removed next you want to remove the Reset Spring this is the metal piece hold the gears in place on the right side of the printer. You remove it buy sliding a flat blade screwdriver under it and prying up gently.

Next remove the tractor gear buy lifting the tab up with a small flat blade screwdriver while pushing gear off. Then remove drive shaft this is the bar the tractor slide on, it will slide right out.
To remove the tractor itself slide it to the larger gap on the left hand side.

Note when installing the new tractor you must line up the timing marks. These are a small dot on the side of the tractors, make sure they are in the same position on both tractors before sliding the drive shaft back in.

The part numbers for the tractors are
53350302 for the right
53350202 for the left

Poor print quality

if cartridge and drum did not solved this problem, this meant that problem lies with mirror or tracking system and repair that bits is usually beyond home user.

firstly try to check and clean all rollers and traction system, work from tray catcher up, follow paper trail and check for stuck hair, bit of paper or any other debries, clean all rollers. then follow paper procedure below:

as this is easy, create a page of white and black about 10mm lines and then print full page on 120g watercolour paper (this is bit grainy paper which will work as "scrub" of the system), this will remove if any, debris from transfer drum in most cases.

if these solution do not work, if you game, remove back, mark all wires where they go, then remove motherboard panel, mark mirror position, clean it up and this will solve the greyness problem, or kill the printer totally...

My D7460 will not feed paper The screen says load paper face down in main tray.

Usually this occurs when a printer has had fairly excessive use. This causes the rubber paper feed rollers to become shiny and then they are unable to grab the paper, or it grabs several sheets at the same time. Newer laser printers have now have grooved belt tracks to help prevent this problem.

The easiest way I have found is to BUFF the shiny tracks... Here´s how... Using a ladies nail file (sand paper type) Press the paper feed button to cause the rollers to slowly rotate and buff the rubber as it turns. Making sure no sand enters the rollers. If several sheets of paper feed at the same time. Pull them out and a trick to stop this happening is... to fan the paper before loading into the paper tray. The trapped air will allow the sheets to glide easier.

Why does my epson stylus 1400 leave streaks in the print?

The tracking wheels (spiked wheels) can pick up ink and lay it back down. They can also accumulate debris that collect ink and put it down in the form of streaks. This is especially true if you use dusty or moist papers (or frosting sheets).

Ink cartridges come off carriage

I'm not too familiar with the 12xx family of printers, but sounds to me like you have broken the print head track arm. Look carefully at the side that has come off the track. The traditional Epson print head design is to have the top track arm as part of the print head, and the bottom track arm as part of the print head carrier. The print head and carrier clip together thus providing a closed arm over the track rail. The key question is, have you merely unclipped the print head and carrier? If so all you need to do is position the upper and lower jaws over the track and push the print head and carrier parts together until they click. Alternatively, is a lower or upper jaw missing? In which case, one or other is broken - disaster I'm afraid.

Remember, I'm talking about generic Epson design of the 1290 vintage. I have the 1290 service manual, which is of the usual Epson rubbishy standard, but it's not the same as having actually dismantled one, which I haven't. However, if you look carefully at the side of the print head that's come off the track rail, you should be able to spot if anything is missing i.e. broken off.

Faulty paper pick-up & tracks down the length of the paper

This problem is caused by a slippery paper pick-up roller. Because the paper slips, it "arrives" too late in the printer mechanism resulting in image shift or paper jam.
You can see this gray rubber roller by removing the paper tray and the imaging unit and turn the printer on his back. Sometimes it helps to "clean" the roller with some sandpaper (take care to remove all small particles!) and/or clean it with some liquid (white spirit, thinner etc.)

Good luck!

Paper jam and possible failure to pull A4 paper ?

1- you must remove the jam paper first
2- set the tray to LETTER or LEGAL not A4
A4 is european size not used in the U.S

Make sure the paper adjuster in the tray is touching the end of the paper size, also there should be some markings in the tray.

The noise is coming from the jammed paper, it is trying to feed itself but is stuck.
