The Sansa doesn't play through the USB connector. Plug the stereo into the Sansa's headphone jack instead.

Sansa e260 says connected but device not recognized

The same thing happens with my camera and it is a problem with the usb cord.
You might want to buy a different one and try that

unfortunately I can't unless I buy the whole camera package :(

I have Windows Vista and it says that it can't support the sansa e260

I would place the e260 in MSC mode first, as Vista should support this Sansa.
Unplug the player, then from the e260 do the following:
go to Settings, then choose System Settings then USB Mode & select MSC. Next, connect the E260, Vista should now see the player properly.

The Sansa doesn't play music through the USB port. You can connect the Sansa to your stereo via the Sansa's headphone jack.

Sansa e260 will not connect to computer

Unplug the Sansa from the computer. Turn it off. Hold in the REC button. Reconnect the Sansa to the computer while holding in the REC button. After 10-15 seconds of continuing to hold in the REC button, a window should pop up saying "Found New Hardware Wizard." Complete the Wizard.
