Have you checked the screws on the back? On most cases, if you look at the front of the case, it's the left that comes off, so look for any screws and any latches under the front face.

How the heck do you get the side panel off Sony

From the Sony manual:
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/PCVRX670_SR.pdf

Removing the Side Cover
You must remove the side cover to access the system board, add-in cards,
power supply, battery, memory, and internal drives.
1 From the rear of the unit, pull the metal tab shown in the next
diagram. (Upper right corner)
2 Pull the top of the cover away from the unit about two inches, then
gently lift out the cover.

Took the cover off to clean the dust off the fans put it back together it will turn on and fans will run but wont boot

1) Side Cover off; Observe whether the fan that pushed air over the Processor is operating.

2) Remove all ram memory modules, and reseat them.
Doesn't take much to bump a ram memory module ('Stick') loose.

Although they may appear to be correctly seated in the their individual ram slots, it is just added assurance to remove, and replace them.

3) Computer was unplugged from power, and if you reached inside, you did observe Anti-Static Precautions, correct?

Anti-Static Precautions:

Your body carries Static electricity.
Static will fry out (Short Circuit), the delicate hardware components inside a computer.
You must relieve your body of Static BEFORE, reaching inside your computer.

Computer unplugged from power, Touch the metal frame of the open computer case, to relieve your body of Static.

As also has been stated, make sure all cables all plugged in tightly.

How do I remove my DVD burner for replacement from my Sony VAIO PCV-RS720G? I get the two little screws out from the side, but then something hangs it up. Can't find what the hang up is. Thanks. Segalhund...

Segalhund, I appreciate your wanting a solution, but please refrain from stating your email addy.

There are three screws.
Facing the back of the computer.

One at the Top in the middle of the case cover.

One down on the Right side, straight across from where the monitor plugs into.

One down on the Left side straight across from where the monitor plugs into.

The cover is shaped like a hood, and slides towards the front of the computer.

I'm looking at the User Manual for the Sony Vaio PCV-RS720 Desktop PC right now.

This is Sony eSupport, and the download page for the Vaio PCVRS720G User Manual,

On this page left-click on Manuals, Specs, Warranty. (In blue to the upper right of the page)

On this page under the heading - Manuals -
left-click on - VAIO User Guide - in the list.

This is a PDF file. It may take as much as 30 seconds before you see the first page. Suggest you let it download all the way before looking through it.

Location of the hard drive

Hi,
Turn the desktop round so the back of it is facing you.
Remove the screws that are on the bottom left and right, and in the top middle and remove the outer casing by sliding the case towards you.

Once the outer cover is removed face the case so you can see the motherboard.
The hard drive is located behind the front panel of the case underneath the CD/DVD drives.
It should be laid on its side with cables coming from it.
As far as i know the hard drive bay will just slide out but there may be holding screws.

Regards.

Removing memory modules (if needed). Carefully spread latches on both sides of the memory slot. The memory module will pop up at 30 degree angle. Pull the memory module from the slot by the edges.
Removing modem card (if needed). Remove two screws securing the modem card. Lift up the modem card to disconnect it from the motherboard and unplug cable from the side.

Hope this Helps

Sony Vaio - How to remove side cover?

On Sonys, you have to remove the top cover first. Look in the back and you will see 2 tabs. Pinch them together and remove the top cover, then the side should slide off.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
