Kenmore 790 Oven Locking mechanism problem

I have a Kenmore Electric Range Model 790. I have a problem with the locking mechanism for the self cleaning oven. It appears that after I selected to clean the oven, the oven door was opened while the lock light was flashing. After this the lock light continues to flash and the lock is extended. It will not retract and the door remains open and won't close now as the locking hook is not allowing the oven door to close. I have tried turning off the power and pressing the stop/clear button without success. The owner's manual does not address what to do if this situation occurs. My Kenmore self cleaning electric range, Model No.665.95781 is in self cleaning mode, and now it will not open.

- I have a Kenmore Electric self cleaning range. It is in selfcleaning mode and now I cannot get the door open? Any ieas?

- The very first time I used my Kenmore electric range oven, the door has remained more than an inch open and just refuses to close. I am sure it has cost me a lot in excess electric bills. What can I do? - chaber

hold down the stop/clear button for 3+ seconds
