Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I need to take apart my top loading washing machine. It looks like the spinner switch came dislodged and the screws that hold it from the top just pulled right out unattached. I need to get that top lid up in order to put the switch back in place and reinsert the screws to hold it in place (then I can find out if it still works), but I'm not sure how to get that top part up. I was able to remove the screw on the back where the controls are to lift that piece off there, but now I am stuck. Thanks! Kat

Check the motor coupler tutorial at www.shop.washermd.com . It shows how to take the cabinet off so that you can access the switch from underneath. Dave

Drain line clogged on Whirlpool model ET1CHMXKB09. How do I access the drain line?

Hello.

Washing machines, like any other mechanical device, occasionally needs servicing. A common problem with most old washing machine is that the spinner, or agitator, drain,or stops rotating during wash cycles. Fortunately, most washing machine problems are easy to troubleshoot. Any do-it-your self offer can fix it; here's how.

TOOLS NEEDED TO SOLVE PROBLEM ARE BELOW.

Bucket and rags,Screwdriver,
New drive belt (if necessary),
New drive motor (if necessary).

1 Unplug the washing machine, and turn off the water supply to the machine. If necessary, remove the water hoses from the back of the washing machine because they may be in the way of the access panel.

2 Check that the agitator is seated correctly by opening the lid of the washing machine. If it's loose, pop off the top of the agitator--if there is one--and tighten the bolt that holds the agitator in place. Or, in some models, simply pull straight up and then reseat the agitator.

3 Remove the access panel located in the back of the washing machine by unscrewing the screws holding it in place. This allows access to the drive motor.

4 Press on the drive belt that works the agitator. If the belt moves more than 3/4 inch, tighten the belt to fix the spinner problem. If the belt is worn or cracked, replace the belt.

5 Replace the drive motor, if tightening or replacing the drive belt doesn't fix the agitator. Purchase a new drive motor at a wholesale retailer. Disconnect wiring, remove screws holding motor in place and insert new motor. Screw into place, and connect wiring.

6 Check for any black substance leaking under the washing machine. This might indicate a clutch problem, if the washing machine spinner is not working. Contact a professional repairman to replace the clutch.

Thanks.

I need to replace the lid switch how can i get it out

If you already have the switch to replace the one you are removing I would start by removing the panel on the top of the washing machine, to do that youll need a phillips screwdriver, a putty knife and-or a small standard screwdriver, on both sides of the controll panel there should be 2 plastic covers on the corners that can be removed by prying gently from the bottom twards the front of the machine, revealing 2 phillips screws on the front of both sides,as well as 2 standard hex hed screws on the upper backside, Remove the screws from the front and the back of the controll panel, Pull it forward about 1/2 inch and lift it off the machine revealing 2 bronze clips that hold the back on the washer, remove thease and you should be able to get the back panel about 6-8 inches from the machine...there are 2 phillips screws holding the button for the lid in place- visable looking under the lid of the machine, it is connected to a wire harness that can be disconnected by hand and it will probibly be easier to put back togeather than it was to get apart.

remember when puting it togeather that the top of the back panel goes behind the controll panel or youll have to take it apart to get it back in there again :) and if you need more space to get the wires apart you should be able to simply disconnect 1 ground and maybe the water level line from the tub to get more space between the machine and the back panel

Check the lid or door switch this is the usuall issue with a washer that won't spin. The other is a blocked pump or clogged pump filter.

You can replace the switch, it appears, without lifting the lid. I've ordered the repair manual (LIT4314044) but I can feel the connector and wires. It appears that the lid switch can be replaced without taking anything apart. There does appear to be a screw on the back that holds the ground in place.
