Question about Hoover U5194-900 Mach5 Multi-Chamber Cyclonic Vacuum Cleaner Bagless Vacuum

Shutting off due to overheating

The machine shuts down after less than two minutes of running. When I take the canister out, the base of the machine feels very hot. I have cleaned the plastic filter that you lift out of the base of the unit but that has not helped.
I ordered a new one but they sent me foam style filters but not the plastic unit.
What can I do to keep this machine running?

Hoover vacuum shuts off after I clean 5 minutes with it. Very hot cord re-wind and bottom area of the vacuum. Cleaned out the bagless container. After I let the vacuum set for a hour, it will clean another room. This was never this way. This vacuum is not even a year old. This just started doing this. What do you think the problem is. I love the automatic re-winding cord style, don't know if we should return it or what we can do. Let us know please Mjpondldy@aol.com Thank you. Bought it at our Wallmart store in Wis.

Tricia, The foam filter is in the upper section, above the dirt cup (after you have removed it), make sure this is clean. Check also for proper suction at the accessory hose, if not there may be an obstruction in the hose or suction path. If suction is good, then check the bottom for an obstruction.

The foam style filters they sent you go in the top of the vaccume above the canister. There is a sticker in the back of the canister compartment indicating an orange lever in the top of that compartment. This releases a plastic retainer with the foam filter in it. Mine was so caked with dirt after 1 year of use it took a while to clean it up. I thought the vaccume was done for in only a year.

S7000 Just shuts off...

It's shutting down due to overheating to protect the motor ( and to prevent a fire! ). Running it and feeling around the motor to see if it's gotten hot would be the first thing I'd check. If the vacuum is new and giving you these problems, I'd return it to the store you bought it from and see what they'll do about it..there may have been a recall you aren't aware of.

Why does my DC17 Animal vacuum keep shutting off?

Hi Emmeline,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. From what you've described, it sounds as if the thermal cutout feature is shutting the machine down to prevent overheating. If you've already tried washing the filter and are still experiencing the issue, I'd encourage you stop using the cleaner and to contact us directly so we can help. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON, or email askdysonUS@dyson.com. We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Why doe this hoover switch off after i start cleaning for about two minutes

You have to check the power switch button because it is mostly used part in the vacuum. A loose connection will occur and the power will shut off if that happened. Also clean the motor, if it is full of dirt you'll be sure motor will easily overheated caused it to premature shut down.
Good luck.

Vacuum shuts off after ten minutes

Hi, check the hose for a clog. A motor shutting off is usually due to overheating and there is a heat sensor to protect it from burning out. If this doesn't solve it, run the machine and see if it get too hot. If its not this simple you may need new brushes for the motor. Hope this helps. Chris

Dyson shuts off in 5 minutes, then starts up 2-3 minutes laters w

I think there's a good chance of a clog that you haven't found. On the Dyson it's fairly easy to remove several covers that give you access. From the collection canister is a tube that runs toward the base. At the bottom of the tube you can remove a cover where you can check for a clog. Thats basically on the right side of the machine. From the rear side, very low and toward the middle right is a tab that you can push in and remove the tube that goes up into the flexible hose. Thats another good place for a clog to hide.

Nothing inn the canister after using, suctione working, bottom roller working,no air leaks from hoses. Also when running awhile it shuts off by itself, have to wait awhile to use again

I'm not sure what vacuum you have, but that sounds like a blockage to me. Thermal shut off kicks in, shutting the motor down, to prevent damage from overheating. After waiting like 1 hour it probably comes back on. Make sure hose, filters, bag (if any) is clean. All "airways" of vacuums need to be clear of any blockages, since airflow is what makes vacuums work.

Vacuum shuts down after a short time and needs to cool off before being restarted.

Could be the protector, it usually is located by the motor. But I am sure that this has a 1 year warranty on it, so if it is less then that, take it in for warranty service. But it also could be that you have a clogged filter, hose is clogged, or the dirt inlet by the brush roll is clogged. A clog will cause the motor to overheat and shut down until it is cleared.
