Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
If that doesn't work, you will have to adjust the eye. After a lot of use, the laser gets too far away to read the info on the disc. To adjust it closer, you would have to remove the case, then open the disc housing, and turn the white, toothed, plastic gear at the bottom 1 or 2 clicks. This isn't for the faint of heart, and there's a lot of stuff that could be inadvertently broken by getting into the guts of your PS2. The guys at your nearest game shop should be able to adjust it for you for a decent price in a relatively small amount of time...

The problem is that the laser is not reading the information on the disc. Either the discs are dirty or you need to clean the 'eye' of your laser. i used to have the same problem. all you need to do is go to wal mart or best buy or whatever and get a lens cleaner. it is simply a disc with very small brushes on the bottom. when it spins the brush will quickly wipe the eye clean. Some have a spray to use with the disc. these work a little better. It should only run you 5-10 bucks.
Hope that helps, please rate if it does...thanks.

Tips for a great answer:
1. If there is a game disc in the console, remove it and then power the unit on/off.
2. When the opening screen appears, choose the bottom option of the two. One will be time and date
6. Return to the Time and Date Setup and verify or set your time zone.
7. Press CIRCLE to exit the configuration menu.
8. Insert the game disc and navigate to the Browser menu to select the game or browse the memory card.
