try disconnecting power for a bit. try the cord under the sink. if its hard wired (no cord) you can try the breaker.
may reset itself.
otherwise, you have a logic board issue.
consult the manual first for explanation of blinking lights etc.
then call the mfg for further info and if needed, schedule an approved repair person.

8 years is a long time for a dishwasher but good going non the less. You will need to open the front panel and check the connections to the dispensor, all switches etc,The water leeking from the door could be a sign that the seal is perrished or simply not sealing aswell as what it should you may also find the machine takes a little to much water for the heavy duty cycle.I think we need to solve the dispensor problem first.Open the front panel and see if all the wires are connected properly and the do a continuity test on the switches, you may find a switch is not functioning properly,if so replace it.The other alternative is get a technition there to check all the problems and see if it is viable to repair as against replacement.Let me know if you need further assistance. If you do please give me make and model and has it got a timer or a pc board in the panel.

Testimonial: "Thank you. I appreciate that you commented on each problem and gave considered answers. I guess I show my age when I suggest that 8 years is not old."
Our problem, though for a different make and dishwasher, was solved by this link.http://www.appliancejournal.com/appliance-repair-help/dishwasher-repair-help/ge-dishwasher-repair/ge-dishwasher-motor-repair-problem-100/

Either the spray arm is not turning, or the temperature is not getting hot enough which would explain both symptoms. Or the water pressure is too low. Unless the detergent door is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Have you checked the kitchen sink drain and air gap if one is installed in your kitchen. If using the garbage disposal unit in kitchen then make sure it is clear.
provide model number of dishwasher for further diagnosis.
