How to Descale your Keurig Coffee Brewer

One of the hottest selling items overthe Christmas season was the Keurig line of Coffee brewing machines. Now many of these machines are giving the owners the "DE-SCALE"message. Because many people do not keep track of their manuals thatcome with the machine, they are now wondering how to do this and whatdoes it mean?

I will give you a basic overview of theprocedure to do the descaling, but each machine has some smalldifferences, so I will also include the link to the Keurig website sothat you can look up the exact procedure for your machine.

The first thing that you will need todo the descaling is up to 48 ounces of white vinegar. The vinegarwill be run through your machine to dissolve the mineral build up inthe machine that is left behind by the water in the heating process. When the water is heated some of the mineral content in the water isturned into a hard rock like material. This adheres to the sides ofthe tubing and will eventually close off the flow of the waterthrough the tubing. Running the vinegar through the tubing willdissolve the mineral and clean up the tubing in the machine.

Next, place the vinegar into the watercontainer. Make sure that the "Auto Off" feature is turned off.During this cleaning process do not have any K-cups in the machine. Then using a ceramic mug to catch the liquid, press the brew cycleand then discard the liquid that comes out into your sink. Do thisuntil the "add water" comes on. Then let the unit stand for atleast four hours. Do not turn the unit off during this time.

After the four hour plus time period, discard any vinegar left in the water tank and fill the tank withfresh water. Now repeat the process of running the brew cycle intothe mug and discarding the liquid until you get the "add water"message again. By this time you should have all of the residualvinegar purged from the system, but if you still notice any residualtaste then run more water through the unit until it is clear.

This should clean the machine and takeaway the "DE-SCALE" message. If you still have the message afterthe cleaning then you may have to repeat the process again.

Also at this time it is a good ides toclean the pins that pierce the K-cup. To do this take a small paperclip and bend the end of it out so that you have about a 1" prongsticking out. Push the paper clip into the hole of the top and bottompins. This will also clean out any material that maybe stuck insidethe pins. Run another cup of clear water after doing this to push outany debris that you may loosen up by doing this.

How to brew coffee

1.Wash the Percolator thoroughly before using for the first time.
(See "Cleaning Instructions" section in this manual.)

2.Remove Cover, Basket, Spreader and Pump Tube. Use cold, fresh
tap water to fill Percolator. Fill according to markings on inside
of Percolator for number of cups desired. Use cold tap water -
the automatic brewing cycle is timed to begin with a cold
water start.
NOTE: The bottom of the Pump Tube Spring marks the maximum
capacity of the Percolator.

3.Wet Coffee Basket to help keep small particles of coffee from sift-
ing through. Place Basket on Pump Tube. Add desired amount of
regular or percolator grind coffee to Basket.

4.Place Pump Tube with Basket into Percolator so bottom of tube is
set into Center Well. Place Spreader on top of Basket and snap
Cover onto Percolator. Attach cord to Percolator and plug into
standard household 120 volt AC wall outlet. Brewing begins
within seconds and continues at a cup-a-minute speed

5.When coffee brewing is complete, percolating will stop. The
Percolator automatically switches to "KEEP WARM" setting to
preserve fresh-tasting coffee at hot, ready-to-serve temperature.
For best flavor, remove Coffee Basket, Spreader and Pump Tube
when brewing is completed.

Take off the front panel by inserting a putty knife in the clips between the top cover and the front panel. Once the front panel is off you will see a clear box on the side of the tub with a clear tube running from it. Take off the tube and make sure the tube and where it attaches are not clogged with junk. Use a bobby pin or paper clip to clear it out. This is what makes sure the tub fills to the proper level. It is probably over-filling because that tube is clogged. Once the water level is lower, the water won't come down the flood tube.

Toilet fills up and water keeps on running (toto 6.0 lpt)

If any toilet runs (continues to fill) when it is not being used, there are basically 3 reasons. the most obvious is that water is leaking out all over the floor so the fill valve thinks the tank has not reached its volume of water. Next, the rubber device that keeps the water in the tank when not being used (most commonly called a flapper) has warped from time or chemicals in the water (NOTE:chlorine eats rubber for breakfast daily), and and allows water to seep past it, which lowers the water level and triggers the fill valve to come back on to top things off.
The third reason is because there is particulat in the fill valve or mineral buildup and internally it doesnt always properly seal so it can run intermittently or all the time.
All the parts on the TOTO ultramax are warranteed for 5 years so keep that in mind if it applies.
Remove the tank lid when you hear the fill vave working and look at the water level. If the water level is below the top of the white plastic tube that the flapper is connected to (often called the overflow tube), then you have a bad flapper. If the water level is going over the top of the tube then you have a defective fill valve.
Out of warranty fill valves can easily be replaced with a Lavelle "Quiet fill" available at most hardware or plumbing stores or online.
This valve is what Toto uses in most of their toilets and it is only the removeable cap that is different (subliminal advertising maybe)

Water will not to watercontainer. Is collected on the bottom at the back of the machine and the waterlight is blinking. The clothing will not dry...

Condenser water pump failure. The tank has a float in it attached to a micro switch. That micro switch powers the pump. I have never replaced on but I strongly suspect that switch has something to do with it. Either that or something has the pump jammed or the pump has failed.
The water gets removed from the clothes by heating the air and tumbling the clothes around. The air gets saturated with water and goes into a radiator that condenses the air to remove the moisture. The water fills into a catch pan with a pump and float. When that water fills the pan the flot kicks on the pump and the water goes for a ride up to the collector where it is supposed to be periodically emptied. At the same time you clean the lint filter you should dump the water I suppose. Facinating technology. It has not yet made it over to my neck of the woods but I imagine one day it will be here. I have an asko manual but no bosch manual sorry.

Ice maker on ED2KVEXVQ01 is making hollow brittle ice. could the fill line be the issue?

This problem is the result of several factors that can be change only by checking the water fill level, time to fill and when and how long the heater element below the ice maker comes on. Also the direction of the water flow when the water comes into the ice maker. If fill tube is leaking water will be going to other places in your refrigerator. Most ice makers are around 7.5 seconds of time to fill. Your fill tube if freezing at end would be related to a defective water control valve. The time of fill and sequence of events is determined by the module in the front of the ice maker. I will need to go deep into my records to pull up that module adjustment for you but when they change setting that is a sign that it may be wearing out. Let me send you a parts manual and user manual and the part number for the complete module is W10190966 Be Right Back, Sea Breeze

Tube feeding ice maker comes off

Good day,
Common problem. Remove ice maker, and make sure tube fits all the way to the rear and seats properly.
Then reinstall ice maker and telescope front part of file tube until it fits into ice ice maker properly. (retaining clip in place).
For the cost, a new fill tube makes sense. Also.........
If the water valve leaks slightly after shutting off during a fill cycle, a plug of ice will build up inside the the fill tube, pushing it off on the next fill cycle. Requires installing a new water valve.

Our ice maker plus WHIRLPOOL is not working

If the fill tube gets choked up with ice, it usually means that the water fill solenoid valve is leaking. The valve is not closing properly and is dribbling water. If the leakage is slow enough, water may freeze in the fill tube. Over time it will freeze the tube completely shut.
