The Philips parts network may be in tattered condition currently because of their abandonment of the US market, turning over everything to Funai, a Japanese maker of miserable junk.

Wont spin or play discs

Two possibilities, The Spindle motor need lubrication or the unit is in such condition that the pickup can not focus on the disc. This happen if the spindle platter goes out of specs- they slip down mostly. The CD olayer wants to get a Focus OK signal before the disc is told to spin.

DVD PLAYER REPAIR (NO DISC ERROR)

Before you attempt to repair your DVD Player yourself, make sure that you have necessary tools and test instruments like philips screw drivers, multimeter, soldering iron, soldering lead, soldering pump, etc...

jdvillanueva_27.jpg

This is a DVD/MIDI Player with a "no disc error" upon loading any disc that played before...
Watch this VIDEO
First I've loaded it with disc and observe the movement of the optical lens and the spindle motor. First thing I've noticed that the spindle motor didn't oscillate upon spinning and it's spin slowly unlike the normal RPM...
I've suspected the spindle motor was already bad but still to be confirm...

jdvillanueva_28.jpg

jdvillanueva_29.jpg

Unscrew the disc holder plate from the assembly to keep away the magnet touching the spindle motor, this may affect the reading and spinning of the motor upon testing with the multimeter.

jdvillanueva_30.jpg

This is how it looks like after removing the disc plate holder in the assembly. Spindle motor is secured with 2 small screws in the lens assembly.
Pull-out the connectors from the main board to see the underside of the tray.

jdvillanueva_31.jpg

You may test the spindle motor with your multimeter set in resistance measurement (ohms X1) even connected to the small board.
Bad motor will read either less than 5ohms(shorted winding) or infinity (open winding) and will not spin.
Good motor will read more than 50 ohms(depends the size) and will spin upon testing. Watch this VIDEO.

jdvillanueva_32.jpg

jdvillanueva_33.jpg

Onced you've confirmed that the motor was already faulty, unscrew it from the lens assembly.

jdvillanueva_34.jpg

Replaced the spindle motor with new one. Before you install the new motor make sure that the clearance of the disc holder is the same as the old one. Compare first the clearance because if it is to high the optical lens will not read the disc same if it is to low....

After replacing the motor re-insert all the connectors to the main board.
I've load same disc which does not read a while ago and observe what will happen. Observe the disc and the sound oscillation from the spindle motor in this VIDEO.

Hope that the above information, pictures, and video will help you fixing your DVD player yourself.
Thanks for visiting Fixya.
Have a nice day!

The problem is it says non recordable disc cant read those are the Panasonic discs that came with it how much is a new laser if i need one

I love these sorts of problems. The typical estimated cost to replace the laser (which may also contain the spindle motor in the same block - as one part) and labour including alignment, firmware, etc. is around $200 - $300 approximately at an authorised Panasonic service centre. You would need to take the unit to a repair centre for a quote on the relevant repairs/parts etc., involved. This way you can make a decision as to whether or not to go further.

However, if the discs you got with the recorder are meant to be recordable, and it can't record them, chances are the laser could just be dirty (factory dust if you bought it new or general dust if you got it secondhand) or it may need refocusing/aligning, or the discs are defective.

These are good units, but keep in mind the DMR-E55 is a 2004 model and does not feature a built in HDD or digital tuner - it is not unfixable though. The other thing you can do which is cheaper, as well as using a DVD lens cleaner disc, is to use a different brand of blank DVD-R/RWs - it might not like the discs you got with it. Have you tried different discs? have you tried to play a shop-bought DVD movie in it? if so, does it read the disc?

Try the lens cleaner disc and different blank DVDs first. If neither fixes the issue, consider the above option - take it to a workshop for analysis/quote.

I placed a DVD into the recorder /player began to vibrate & noise

HI
I have had this kind problem before on some dvd players. I don't think there is anything wrong as such it seems you have a noisy disc motor.
My solution to this is to squirt a little WD40 where the spindle shaft goes through the motor. Don't squirt too much or it will get messy. I think you'll find this will help! (:-)

Hi, My Samsung DVD F1080 cannot read disc. Please, Why ?

I have 2 of these units and both suffer with spindle motor problems. With Samsungs track record with Very Bad DVD drives (2xHR734 2xDVD-F1080 + a load more I'm repairing right now) I would go with the spindle motor not spinning the disc up.

Bush recorder no longer finds blank dvd

Owing to the fact that it works with the original discs, the set is probably ok. BUT it's not very compatible with the blank discs you've purchased. You'll have to experiment with various brands until you find those that work. I find my Cyberhome deck is not only particular with some brands, but with different batches of the same brand disc. Ask some of the big box stores that sell blanks and you'll find they get a lot of returns for the same reason, they don't work in the customer's machine. Bush doesn't sound very competent in the customer support dept, so I would look to replace your Bush recorder with something more main line, and probably more expensive and compatible.
Oh, and make sure you are getting the same type of disc- DVD-R and DVD+R are not the same.

How to place the belt on the turntable.......

Suggestion:

Pull rubber matt off TT. Use a small screw driver to pop off the small black "C" clip at base of steel record post. UNderneath plastic disc you will see the belt, and it loops on the metal post and over to the plastic barrel shaft to its right. Try this:

  1. Using Non-gelatin based nail polish remover OR acetone (gotten from any hardware store), and a few Q-Tips, rub the belt inside and out along its entire length until you feel the tacky rubber feeling come back to the belt. You may also see the shiny surface come off the belt as you clean it. The shiney look is from belt slippage and its like a glazing. Also, if you notice any of this black glazing on the two belt posts, clkean them off as well.
  2. If belt broken, replace with new by looping it back around the two posts under plastic TT platter.

If its truely a belt issue these two should solve it.
