Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

1 Answer

We have a whirlpool estate top freezer model# TT18SKXRD00. It was working fine until the freezer door stayed open over night. We cleaned it out & let it stay unplugged over night thentried again no luck. The freezer fan works fine but it seems the compressor is not going on. We replaced the overload/relay, again, no luck. Should We have changed the capacitor also or do We need to buy a new fridge? I believe this is a 2005 model. Please advise.

Your Adaptive Defrost Control may be the cause. The part number is=> 4388931 Defrost Control Board
We have a whirlpool estate top freezer model# TT18 - 12_12_2012_9_15_07_pm.jpg

Sometimes the adaptive defrost control board will allow the fans to continue to run as the compressor sits silent. I want someone to also fill the top of the compressor for warmth or heat to the point you cannot keep your hand on top. If the problem is the compressor is too hot to keep hand there and the refrigerator is not cooling you will most likely need to change out the compressor start components. I see you all ready tried the compressor start components. Then you have only the
4388931 Defrost Control Board to replace and it can be found inside the fresh food section behind the controls just above the top shelf, Let me know if compressor was getting hot. I will be here to answer any questions you may have, Thanks Sea Breeze

Thank Sea Breeze, I will give that a try & see what happens. The compressor is warm but in no way is it hot.

@SEA BREEZE, is there a way to test to see if the DCB is actually the problem before spending the money on it?

Sometimes the ADC or defrost control will show burn marks but not always. There is a way to test the defrost functions but not any way to test the relays that are on the board that controls the compressor and fans. A technician can test these parts by either testing voltage at compressor or placing a jumper on the defrost control board to cause the compressor to run. I hope the compressor was warm because of room temperatures because it should not be trying to start if the defrost board is defective. Here is a Whirlpool Defrost Control Trouble Shooting PDF I don't believe this will help if there is a bad relay on the Defrost Control but I will post for your information so someone that knows what to look for in the circuity can use to help answer your question, Thanks JT http://appliance911seabreeze.com/whirlpo...

SOURCE: refrigerator Compressor hot to touch & fridge/freezer not cooling

you need to do an amp draw with your meter, clamp the run wire on the compressor, you should get 2-5 amp reading, any higher means the compressor is going bad, also should be a locked rotor amp(LRA) reading on comp.-mike

Refrigerator starts cooling mainly when I open the door

Put a thermometer in both the freezer and the fridge. Fridge should be around 40F if not a little lower, but should stay above 30F.

Freezer should be just below 30.

I have an Estate refrigerator by whirlpool Corporation, model # TT18DKXRQ01 with a 12-07 mfg. date. When you open the refrigerator door, as it closes, the freezer door always opens and closes. Apparently...

I also own a model # TT18DKXRQ01 Estate refrigerator and my freezer door pops open when I close the refrigerator. As you stated, this is caused by the magnet in the freezer gasket not being strong enough to hold. As far as I know, they do not make a stronger freezer gasket but even if they did, it would probably be too costly considering that a standard gasket replacement costs $80.

My solution was to install an adhesive child safety lock on the top of the freezer near the door handle. I purchased the 'Safety 1st Lock Release Fridge Latch' model # HS038 from my local Walmart store for around $5.

You may find this solution to be slightly inconvenient at first but you will get used to it. It sure beats losing food because the freezer door was accidently popped open.

I have a Whirlpool ED5FHGXNQ00 side by side.for a while it started to show signs of warming up in the fridge side.i noticed the dust built up underneath on the coils and cleaned it.i left it of*** night to defrost.have not plugged it back in yet.but in the freezer behind the panel there was ice build up to the right of the evaporator fan on the plastic scroll.i cleaned that upturned it on and noticed that there was very little air coming through the top air scoop vent in the fridge side.when I open the freezer door it allows more air though(probably to compensate).anyway I read alot on this issue and some say it's the defrost timer boardsome thermostat.the compressor stays pretty hotbut the freezer works fine.please help.

My Estate by Whirlpool freezer coils freeze up and both the freezer and lower compartments won't stay cold. I can manually thaw the freezer and it works ok for a few days then does it again

You have a problem with the automatic defrost cycle, it is typically the defrost control, which is located in the compartment next to the thermostat or cold control. If you send me your entire model number from the tag on the inside I can get you the part number needed.

Check the condensor coils and clean them. The condensor fan may be running slower than normal. It is working hard to move the heat. The area between the doors has a line there purposely to keep it warm so moisture that condenses there when the doors are opened evaporates and doesn't cause mold.

Bottom of fridge not cooling

The fresh food compartment is cooled by air being blown from the freezer compartment into the fresh food compartment. Something is restricting that air flow which causes your fresh food compartment to stay warm.

There is a panel, or door if you will, that separates the freezer and fresh food compartments. The freezer temp control determines how much cold air is allowed to escape into the fresh food compartment by opening or closing this panel.

If the panel is restricted from moving (stuck closed, for example), the freezer will get VERY cold while the fresh food compartment will be warm.

Try thoroughly defrosting the refrigerator. Possibly an accumulation of ice is preventing the panel from moving and/or is restricting air flow from the freezer to the fresh food compartment. It's a free fix and may solve your problem altogether.

If that doesn't help, or helps only temporarily, you may have a problem with panel itself or the linkage that connects it to the control mechanism. Unless you're skilled in appliance repair, checking and repairing these components will require the help of a service technician

Hope this was helpful. Good Luck.
