Hi there
This is a common problem with laptops, you will need to have the battery checked as it could be damaged and needs replacing. Alternatively it could be the motherboard or the power supply itself which is faulty

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya

Can you blow out the dust in you lap top yourself

Hi,

yes, if you have an ordinary vacuum cleaner, then you can.
Simply attach the end of the hose to the part of the laptop where you can feel with your hand how the cooler blows out.

Please note that in order to avoid static electricity it is required that the laptop is turned off and the battery is taken out.

Good luck.

Lap top battery charging, LEDs not light but charging battery up to 76 %

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

How to charge new battery in my laptop

as i do not know what laptop we are talking about here i asume its not a notebook
if it is the time is slightly lower (6-8 hours)
a normal lap top 10 - 12 hours.
some super batery laptops come with an own (long) guide how to keep the batery alive.

to keep the batery alive a long period of time charge it from 50% not when its at critical.

If u can take out the batery when you are using cable and its fully charged it also has a longer life time. or just take out the cable when its at 100% and recharge it when it gets to 50%

dont have your computer in the lap it can over heat the computer/batery and the lifte time gets even lower.

The charging light is blinking orange and blue, but is not charging.. what does that mean?

Since most newer lap tops and note books use Li-ion batteries, they (the BatteryPack) have a built in chip to keep the charger from over charging a depleted battery, one that has locked itself from being charged. This is a safety feature to prevent a fire from a hot battery that may be overcharged. This feature locks the battery when the internal resistance gets too high and the battery pack falls below 3 volts per cell.

Try this for laughs, take the battery out of the lap top and put it in your freezer for about an hour and then place it back in your machine and see if it will begin to charge. This works sometimes as the cold slows the charging down to where the battery may recover. However, it will still be a low use battery as over time they loose the ability to be recharged to a full 100%

The worst is that you may have to buy another battery. If you do avoid buying used batteries as some one else is trying to sell you their problem.

My battery states that it is fully charged but when I switch on the laptop it says that I need a new battery. My laptop also gets very hot.

In my experience, you should trust your laptop, not your battery.

Concerning hot - can your computer breathe? You shouldn't actually sit your lap top on your lap ... it should sit on a hard surface so air can be drawn into the vents by the fan.

My dell laptop battery will not charge. It is about 5 years old. It works when the power cord is plugged in. But if I unplug it the it just turns right off. When I plug it in and turn it on it will not...

here is one thing you can try with battery wrap it up in aluminium foil put it in your freezer over night this will reballance it and then try charging if it don't work after this battery is dead need new one.
