Question about Samsung LNT3242H Television

1 Answer

The color on my Samsung LNT3242H LCD tv is very intense. The reds are really bright and so are the yellows and greens. I can't adjust them. Is this caused by a bad main board?

When TV first started doing this it would begin after the TV was on for a few minutes but now it is happening as soon as the TV is powered up.

Unplug for 30 seconds from it's power source and then try it again. If that doesn't work, call Samsung for further troubleshooting and have your model number and serial number handy. Please be prepared to tell them how long the line is.

SOURCE: Samsung LN-R408D - No Picture

My Mom's LNR408D also had sound but no picture. I was able to fix it by soldering in a jumper wire across a blown (1.5A ???) SMD picofuse on the "T-Con" board.
Consider attempting this ONLY if you: 0) Know enough to avoid the potentially fatal High Voltage parts of the power supply board!!!
1) Are a fearless hackazoid 2) know what you're doing with a soldering iron and teensie SMD parts 3) are gonna throw the busted thing out anyway so you have nothing to lose and won't be sad if you screw something up.
4) Know enough to avoid the potentially FATAL High Voltage parts of the power supply board!!!!!

This board is at the top center under a close fitting RF shield. The suspect part was labeled "CP" on the board and marked with "P" on the part. It is visible above the right-center of the connector from the main board. An ohmmeter showed it as open, so I bypassed it with a jumper wire from connector VIN to the hot side of C13. One image shows the suspect part and the jumper in place.

b761e87.jpg
The other shows the TCON board placement top-center (under its RF shield). With care, it seems possible to test the fuse and put the jumper in place without removing the shield. (Obviously don't touch anything else with the VOM leads!)

Thanks to ZORBUS and Steve's TV and Electronics for the idea.

Hi Lizzette,
I am afraid your problem is a little technical. Well if you know something about lcd tv technicals, the problem seems to be the T Con board and/or its connectors. Check the ribbon cables and connectors, clean them properly and and start the tv.If it is not possible or it does not work, please consult someone qualified to handle your set. Good luck.

Contrast really dark but seems to improve after the tv has been on several hours

Hi:
You may have a problem with the inverters in the unit, they are responsible for lighting up the back panel. Check or have checked the power supply voltage to the inverters, should be around 18-24 volts DC. Also leaky capacitors on the power supply will cause this issue as well as leaky or puffy capacitors on the inverter.

When we watch our insignia television anything red in color looks as if it is jumping or quivering...why is this?

This sounds like you are using a composite, S-Video, or RF cable input.

The quality of these inputs are not as capable as component or HDMI, so colors are not separated as well. Red is a color that saturates heavily and will cause bleed as well as dithering...especially intense colors (bright green, bright blue, bright yellow, bright red).

To reduce this visual annoyance you would need to soften the video output from the player (not easy to accomplish), or upgrade to a better cable connection.

Hope this helps!

How to adjust color on sk-32h570d

This is from the MANUAL
www.westinghousedigital.com/pdf/197_User_Manual.pdf

PAGE 27

Use the Settings sub-menu options to manually adjust the display quality. Use the ◄/► keys to adjust the
option level.
Adjust the luminance level.
Adjust the brightness to darkness ratio.
Adjust the balance of the red, green, and blue colors in the display.
Adjust the color intensity.
Adjust the sharpness or softness of the display.
Adjust the brightness level of the screen backlight.

AND this is from the troubleshooting procedures in the manual

PAGE 64

Wrong, abnormal or missing colors

・ If any colors (red, green or blue) are missing, check the video cable to make sure it is securely connected. Loose or broken pins in the cable connector could cause an improper connection.
・ Press and select Picture | Settings to adjust the Hue and Saturation settings. You can also select
Picture | Advanced to adjust the Color Temperature settings.
・Connect the TV to another computer and check if the problem is with the computer screen.

Other than that there is no mention of color adjustment

Same problem w yellow on viewsonic pj550

Yellow is the mixture of 100% red and 100% green. what you may have here is a blue LCD failure in the machine. Try this to check. Open up PAINT and double click one of the colors on the bottom. now click add custom color. then in the RGB section put 0 for red 0 for green and 255 for blue. ok out of everything and fill the background w/ the blue. it should be a VERY intense blue, if its white or or kinda blue, you have an LCD issue

Here are the settings:

PS3 Blu-Ray player

Output Format (HDMI): Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr (important!!! NOT RGB output)
BD 1080p 24hz Output (HDMI): On (this TV can reproduce video at 48hz for accurate 2:2 pulldown)

Take time to get used to the settings, you may think the screen looks dull at first. The truth is most people have way too much contrast on their TVs.
These settings will also work for Cable or Dish hookups, in which case you may change the Noise Reduction option to Medium to reduce signal noise.
