Try control+alt+delete and select task manager. If task manager click file then select new task. Then type in explorer.exe and press enter. See if that helps.

When I turn on my Dell Latitude D600 PC, the windows xp loading page appears. After it has loaded the screen turns black and does not make any further progress.

It appears that your display works fine until Windows XP loads. Try tapping the key when powering on the laptop. Select boot in safe mode and see if the laptop works. Here's a description of safe mode by Microsoft.

Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words "Safe Mode" appear in the corners of the display to identify which Windows mode you are using. If an existing problem does not reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes.

If you don't know the cause of the problem, you can use the process of elimination to help you find the problem. Try starting all of the programs you commonly use, including the programs in your Startup folder, one by one, to see if a program might be the cause of the problem.

If your display works in safe mode then you have a video driver issue or virus or software issue.

I had lost my Dell Latitude D600 Bios passowrd. So I removed the comos battery (behind main battery) and reinstalled it. But now my laptop is giving this message on bootup "invalid system...

  1. Set the BIOS to defaults:

  2. Restart your Dell laptop. Click on "Start," "Turn off Computer" and "Restart."

  3. Press "F2" during the boot process to enter the BIOS. Press "F2" before the Windows loading screen. Certain models may use a different key. The key will be displayed during the boot process. For most Dell models, the key is "F2."
  4. Use the "Alt" + "F" key combination to load defaults.
  5. Press "Esc" on your Dell laptop keyboard to save and exit.
  6. Choose the "Enter" key to save all changes and exit the BIOS screen. Allow your laptop to restart for BIOS settings to reset.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

Blue screen on my dell latitude d600 tells me its dumping memory and that its complete says contact tech support

Hello my friend,
The blue screen is very popular and it's usually happen when there is a file system deleted or a virus on your computer.
You may try to boot up your system in safe mode and then uninstall any software that you installed recently and restore also your computer to a date when it was working fine.
If this doesn't fix the issue, you can try the recovery system if enabled when you installed your system for the first time.
If it's not the case, the only way to get this computer working again is by formating your computer and installing windows again.
Best Regards,

Won't load Desktop

Is this running XP? Does the computer shut down or just go back to the welcome screen and ask for your password again?

If it returns to the welcome screen (and it is XP) get the following two files from another xp machine and copy them to the windows\system32 folder.

userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe

Restart the computer and log back in.

Hope this helps

Dell Latitude D600 won't go past the Dell startup screen

Tap the f7 or f8 key, when you turn it on, it should go into safe mode, Go into start programs, accesories, tools, and restore, select restore, select a date closest to today and let it go through the restore pocess, if it suceeds and starts up, rub a good virus program right away, it sounds like you picked up a virus or trojen, just be patient and it shoul be ok, if it won't go into safe mode, let me know, that will require more work. And before you do anything, unplug, remove the battery for a few minutes and replace, try it and if it still won't run, do the above, thanks ,GYM
