Question about Acer Aspire 5100-5022 Notebook

1 Answer

I know I've waited probably too long (please tell me that's ok :)) but about a week ago I accidentally spilled a little wine (wasn't more than a tablespoon, if that) on the lower right hand side of my notebook. I immediately grabbed a towel and tipped it so that whatever liquid was in there would come out (I was wiping it as it came out). After that was done, I took Q-tips and went around the keys in that area to make sure it was all dry. That's the beginning of it so I'll stop here. Sorry it's so long, lol!

does this cost money? after i hit the send button i noticed what it said and freaked out and got off the site! when i went back i saw up above it a place for FREE inquiries so was just starting to write there, lol!

Ok, thank you SO much. When I boot it up, it starts this loud, high beeping sound so I discovered if I tap on some keys and then his Esc, it stops. I took one of the keys off and unfortunately the little black spring-type thing came off. I worked and worked on it last night and finally got it back in. It works but isn't pretty (the bottom sticks up) and you have to push it hard. What do you think so far?

  • harmony52 Jan 13, 2009

Just the bottom of ONE key (lower right - arrow pointing left). Like I said, I worked on the springy thing and when I put it back in and snapped the key back on, it wouldn't go on straight. It's a little cocked to the right and the bottom of it sticks up higher than the others. Several beeping sounds!

  • harmony52 Jan 13, 2009

Unfortunately before I put the key on. The spill happened about a week ago, I messed around with that key just 2 days ago. Yes, it's still under warranty but they said that this kind of thing wouldn't cover it :(

  • harmony52 Jan 13, 2009

Yeah but when they open it up and will probably see that something was spilled on it they'll know then and tell me that it isn't covered under the warranty, whaaa!! I told you before, but yes, the beeps happened the next time I booted it; the key I just did 2 days ago :)

I would talk to them again and DO NOT mention about the spill and just kind of play dumb and usually they will just do it. it's worth a shot. did the beeps happen before the key?

Ok another question is did the beeping start after you put the key on or before? If it was after then the key is not sitting on right and you would have to take it off and try to put it back on as straight as you can. Is your computer still under warranty?

Now when you say the bottom sticks up where on the computer are you taking about? Is the beeping one loud beep or several beeps?

I accidentally spilled nail polish remover on my macbook. it works fine now but i've noticed the fan runs more frequently now. is this normal?

it's possible you got some inside your mac. When it heats up, can you smell the remover? It might be that it dried inside and is being reheated every time you use the mac.

My keyboard does not work but mouse does

Have you recently had any accidental spills on the keyboard? If not, how old is it... it could just have deteriorated contacts due to age, or possibly a manufactuer defect?

If its within a year old, contact Toshiba and send it in... it should be covered under warranty, as long as it wasn't a consumer accident... such as dropping it or spills.

My son spilled a drink on his laptop (yesterday) and now it wont turn on at all. do you think it will dry out? we only bought it a few weeks ago and it was expensive!

Hi

Thank you for your query

Unfortunatley it is one of these issues where you will have to wait, I would try to place the laptop near a warm heat source (please note this is done at your own risk in the sense that it is NOT to be put near a gas fire or any other appliance where it can catch fire), to dry up and then you can retry

If alot of drink was spilt then it will probably have seeped pass the keyboard down into the internals

If it is only a few weeks old did you purchase some sort of accidental cover? as you may be able to get it exchanged, to be honest it may be worth trying to exchange it anyway as it is only a few weeks old the manager of the store may allow it

I hope this has been useful

Coffee spilled on my Macbook

Hi. Was your macbook open at the time? If os, then the beverage may have gone deeply into the machine. There is some protection from a bit of the elements under the keyboard, but not waterproof protection. also speaker areas and between where the monitor meets the frame. Also the battery compartment and memory compartment are breachable as well. The service center will probably know moisture to a large degree has entered the chassis of your computer. I said probably because it obviously damaged the computer, hence the need for a service center. Coffee gets in there and really can create a problem. Especially if there was mild and sugar in it. Good luck to you. It may be OK. Pretty sure your hard drive is at least.

Spilled wine in keyboard

it really depends, on the logitech stuff they have the accidental spill holes in the bottom so liquid doesn't pool but there is a possibility that it could have saturated the board and ruinied the internals, just try to dry it out as best you can and hope for the best

Very short freezes constantly

There was more damage than just the keyboard, your fault appears intermitten and possibly some connectors and sockets are not making good electrical contact. You need to dismantle the laptop completely to inspect and clean what ever you can with distilled water and let it dry throughly. It still may not work because there may be some electrical damage to some chips and components, especially if the laptop was running at the time of the wine spill.

There is not much help I can offer you except to advise you to buy another laptop, and if the hard drive in the old laptop is OK then buy a USB hard drive case and insert the laptop hard drive in this case and use it as an external USB hard drive. You need to delete all the old system files etc. to maxmise the hard disk space.
