Question about Video Cameras

Open Question

I have an circa 1997 Sony CCD-tr86 Video Camera Recorder with hours of memories stored on 8mm tape. The Camcorder has seperate Video/Audio outlets for connecting to a VCR or TV and an RFU DC special minijack, but (obviously) no USB connection. Is there a cable or other device with which I can connect the Camcorder to my computer to transfer the tapes to electonic media?

SOURCE: Connecting my Sony Camcorder CCD-TRV 108 to my computer

To do this you will need a firewire cable 4 to 6 pin, here a link:
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin®-Firewire-Cable-4-Pin-6-Pin/dp/B0016W3L3O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1226166429&sr=8-3

you'll plug the 4 pin connector, that's the smaller one, into the DV port on the camera, then you'll plug the 6 pin into the computer's firewire port.
now open WMM, iMovie, Adobe Premire, whatever you are editing with:
imove: got to capture> video from camera, in the new one there should be a little button with a camera, just click that
WMM: Click record> from camera, then put your camera in playback mode, and hit record on WMM, start playing and BAM. same prcess for recording applies to pretty much all of them.

SOURCE: Transfering 8mm video tapes to dvds

Hi there. You need to transfer your videos to your computer and then burn them to DVD using a program like Record Now, or Nero. You should be able to get this from Best Buy, or you can get it online from their websites. If you have any other questions, let me know with a comment. Thanks for coming to FixYa.

You can take your tapes to a video transfer service and get them to transfer to DVDs. Any large metro area will have these services but if not, you can mail off the tapes to a known service. Look online (google) for a reliable service with BBB rating and customer testimonials. Look locally first.

You may find a working Sony 8mm camcorder on your local Craigslist.com or at a Goodwill store or other second hand outlet or in the newspaper ads or online but that is unlikely since they are so dated. Remember that a Sony Hi8 camcorder can also read 8mm tapes so if you can find one of those for $50 to $80, they would read the tapes.

Lastly you could repair the camcorder but it may not be worth the cost. Local electronics repair shops may be able to fix the camera.

HAVE CCD-TRV22 , WHAT VIDEO TAPE NUMBER DO I

Though 8mm filming was and still is the best safest way to make movies Sony have stopped producing 8mm tapes, I use the brand new Digital 8 tapes on my brand new Sony camera, would never dream of going over to Hard drive/SD card/DVD recording cameras as the image will not last as long as it will on 8mm tape.
Also the 8mm cameras are much better made than anything since 2006.
If you type 8mm movie tapes in your search engine you will find 100's of firms still selling your tapes, they will help you choose the right one ok?

Problem is dirty / clogged video head of v-8 player or camcorder what ever you are using for playback. Use good quality video head cleaning cassette for head cleaning.
Please check tapes on another camcorder as tapes seems OK.

Transferring to DVD?

Maybe when you play the 8mm tape on the TV and have DVD/TV recorder hook up to the TV.
