Philips livingcolors lamp stuck/freeze

After pluging in it suppose to run through all the colors then be ready for operating. Instead of that it starts immediatly to light only one color and it's non operational (remote was connected and working properly before this "stuck"). Any ideas how to 'hard reset' lamp?

Most of their sets do not have a reset for this kind of issue.

I will ask since you do not indicate this: have you tried to remove power from the set and any box if used for a while a then power back?

I assume from question you replaced the lamp, what was issue before you did that?

SOURCE: bad color

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

f0900cb.jpg
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

With the back off of the set it will shut off. There is a lever it engages to prevent the set being operated with the back off.

The color Wheel will cause a fan like or high pitched grinding noise. I can tell you where to buy it and also there are on the internet places with written and VIDEO instructions for the replacement in most of these sets.

Put the back on and see if the set again works and still has the noise.

SOURCE: Samsung HLR5078W pop sound followed by a loud buzz then shut down

Your lamp burst. This model uses a lamp housing which does not have a filter screen on it. When the lamp bursts, hot pieces of glass and mercury (very toxic) drop straight down into the cooling fan below it. Although FixYa.com (implies I'm suppose to tell you how to fix it) I am going to tell you to call a servicer and have them clean that mess out of there. It's a health issue, I don't want someone unknowingly exposed to mercury on my watch. Let the servicer know what he is getting into. I hope this helps.

Corner of picture is out of focus with colors separated how do i adjust the images

The Philips and Magnavox sets have a way of the anti freeze going cloudy in the green and blue guns. Look (with a pair of sunglasses, while the set is running)) into the lenses, and make sure there is no haziness in the coupling lens (the lens the liquid makes up). This anti freeze keeps the CRT cool since they are run fairly hard, and generate lots of heat.

I have done 2 Philips sets just this week for anti freeze trouble. It should be clear as water, if it is not, that is the trouble. Your trouble could be that the anti freeze levels have dropped, the top of the coupling lens chamber, when the projected image hits the front of the set, appears at bottom of the screen. The image will be out of focus in the area where the anti freeze is gone.

Everything that is supposed to be black is showing

Hi,It sounds like a problem with the color wheel or DMD board. The color wheel is a rotating disc that has a gamma of colors it spins at high rpms. The light of the lamp goes through it to create the colors on your tv.When it starts to go bad you will hear ,humming, buzzing, high pitch noises ,you might also experiment color distortion ,black and white picture. This is how the DMD works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens. Here's a video that will help you find where the DMd chip is located : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jr_9A5Xd2Q Have a blessed one!
