I was cutting a plywood and pulled the saw back through the cut, before the blade came to a complete stop. Now it will not turn on. Is there a reset switch or a failsafe that tripped when I did that?

Good afternoon Rebecca.

Some of the answer will depend on your make/model. Saws will generally have some failsafes inside to keep them from getting damaged, but lets start with what you have. You say you pulled the blade back through the cut before the blade came to a stop. That was probably OK - you generally don't want to stop the saw in the middle of material since it might pinch or jam against incoming wood.

If there is not motion, the foremost question is whether it's a saw problem or a power problem. To that end (please be careful here - unexpected saw starts can hurt you very badly)
  1. With the saw unplugged, can you move the blade at all? There may be a fair amount of resistance through the worm gear to the motor, but it should move. If it's totally jammed, you may want to try removing the blade and checking for debris jammed in the saw
  2. If the saw is plugged into another outlet that you know has power, will it turn on? If not, focus on the saw, if it works, focus first on the outlet.
  3. Is there power to the outlet? Plug something else that you know works into the outlet and see if it will turn on. If not... check if it's a GFI outlet and try resetting the breaker buton in the middle of the outlet. Then check the breaker panel that serves that plug and see if a breaker tripped. this could be particularly possible if it's a 15 amp circuit and you were, say, cutting a heavy thickness of plywood. Try re-setting the breaker then and see if the outlet turns back to life.
Some saws may have an overheat breaker, which will require you to just let the saw cool for a while. others may have a fuse, but the location will depend on the particulars of the model.

Hoping this helps.
Good Luck!

16 month out of warranty 5477nb hypod saw jams almost instantly

You don't give much information Carlos but I will try and help.

A commercially built table saw usually has power to spare and therefore will generally cut beyond its stated capabilities. In other words it is unlikely to jam, though the cheaper saws of far-eastern manufacture often need a good deal of work prior to first use calibrating and adjusting so the blade is parallel with the crosscut fence guide channel and at an exact right-angle to the table when the handwheel scale is set on zero.

If this work is not done I suppose it is possible jamming could occur if the saw was assembled carelessly.

Possibly the saw isn't jamming but the blade is in fact stalling.

Two possibilities come to mind that could cause this. If it is a belt-drive saw it is possible the belt requires adjustment. If it is a direct drive it indicates a problem with the motor, robbing it of power. In nearly all instances such problems also change the sound the motor makes and reduces the speed of the blade.

I hope this is helpful?

Grinding problem

That is a good idea. Also one or both brushes brushes could be stuck in the holder. If stuck I would just replace the brushes so I could count on it working a long while.Give the brush holders a good cleaning if you decide to replace or not.

Robert

Tried chain saw. Working on limbs about 12 ft above ground.
First limb about 3 inches diameter, Oak. Worked fine.
Second limb same size. Cutter slip off branch could not stop the saw from hitting ground. Broke case where it attaches to pole.
No parts, and no way to repair it as company had no idea what kind of cement/glue I could use. So one branch cost me $120.00.

Like Robert my saw hit the ground and busted in the same spot (this will happen to you sooner or later) and you can not get repair parts, its now a door stop.
Pros: Easy To Use, Light Weight
Cons: Can Not Get Repair Parts
I am guessing you mean the entire cutting end of the saw too, I would get a new one either same model so you have a spare pole or find a another brand that definatly sells spare parts.
Ive never used a electric polesaw but have done alot of work with with longer petrol and shorter hydrolic polesaws, even top of the range they can be broken easily always keep the chain sharp, cut one branch at a time or small clumps on a hedge.
Commonly they get dropped cause they get really heavy extended a shoulder belt helps alot as do coffee breaks.
Or they get jammed in the branch being cut which can be really dangerous with a half cut branch, be ready to run.
Also never use from a ladder

How to replace carbon brushes for Hitachi C7U2

brushes can get jammed in the holders if not used for a while. If you can not pull them out then you will have to cut the wire in the middle of the spring, remove the main body from the aluminium casing and push them through. Then replace them with a new set after cleaning the holders so the new ones slide in and out smoothly.

Ryobi mitre saw jamming when cutting

There's a normal adjustment process of squaring the blade to the table, page 19 of your manual. If the blade is not square to the table then it will bind. Here's the link for the manual, see page 19.

Saw stops when i start cutting 1/2 plywood.

If it actually binds and stops the motor...... it sounds like the motor is bad, the bearings are bad, or the blade is on backwards. If the motor keeps spinning, but the blade stops then the gears are bad or the blade bolt is not tight.

The rubber tires on my 12inch bandsaw want to bunch up when i'm trying to cut something. should the tires be replaced or is something else causing this problem? thanks

Have had my 12" Craftsman for 25 plus years with moderate use and have not seen that problem or replaced the tires. Please give me some idea what may have caused the problem for future reference. Moisture, contamination, jamming saw blade etc.Relacing the tires is about all that can be done other than finding out what may have happened. Thanks and good luck!
