Oh please be careful while examining electrical components on your refrigerator! I do not recommend looking over any parts if the refrigerator is plugged in to a power source. If you are planning to replace your refrigerator I recommend one that uses a simple defrost timer and has no electronics. GE really messed up with production of the Profile and Artica. These models are a complete failure that have cost most families the expense of repair and technicians having to repeat visits just to keep them going. I recently purchased a Whirlpool ED5PVEXWS08 side by side for around $800.00. It does have an electronic defrost control but other than that it is a simple design that does not have all of the electronics that can be damaged by a power surge or age. Don't choose a refrigerator because it has fancy digital temperature readouts or electronic controls because these models will fail long before a refrigerator that has a mechanical defrost timer and manual temperature controls. Don't buy LG or Samsung. These models have a lot of people angry and holding a nice looking refrigerator that fails long before they should. If you still would like to repair your refrigerator I will answer any questions you may have to try to keep them going. I do wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New 2013, Thanks John Tripp

It is possible the refrigerator is low on Freon. You will need to remove the back panel inside the rear of freezer to examine the evaporator coils. If only a few rows have frost it will be time to replace the refrigerator. If the control panel in the freezer dispenser are coming on and off there may be a bad connection in the plug under the top left door hinge cover. Check that the plug is tight. Let me know what you see first behind the freezer wall, Thanks Sea Breeze

The GE Profile and Artica have been an expensive problem for almost everyone that owns one. The motherboards cost around $150.00 up. Motherboard failure requires someone that is able to do diagnostics to find the cause of motherboard or compressor start component failure. I will be happy to assist someone if you choose but do warn that these refrigerators will leave you without money to buy another replacement should you call on a repairman first. There is limited I can tell you here on repair of your refrigerator without you using an OHM meter and test electrical test points on the motherboard or compressor. I recommend replacing the refrigerator with something that has no electronics or motherboard. A refrigerator that uses a defrost timer and has mechanical controls. Let me know what you decide to do, Thanks JT

SOURCE: our GE profile freezer/frig - frig side has ice on coils

The profile uses a motherboard instead of a defrost timer. you can remove the evaporator cover and you will see a glass defrost heater at the bottom and a white sensor and a defrost thermostat at the top of the coil. you can ohm out the thermostat and the heater. If the white sensors have a round end instead of a flat end replace any way.

Had similar problem, freezer was working fine, but fridge was warm, (68 degrees) It wasnt my damper, the mother board was fried, and so was the inverter board that told the compressor what to do, after having the inverter and two mother boards replaced.......I threw it out, biggest piece of ****, only three years old, and Sears would not stand behind it, even though I used their repairmen. GE Profile refrigerator temperature problem

refrigerators have 2 coils. the evaporator coil and the condensing coil. one is on the bottom of the fridg and one is on the back or inside behind a false panel. these coils must be kept clean or if the condensing coil cannot reject the heat absorbed by the evaporator, the box temp will stay high and if the evap coil cant absorb heat the box temp stays low running the risk of freezing

Hi, this problem is going to be with the running thermostat2.gif (cold Control). It has gone bad and stays open which in turn will keep the compressor running continually and will cause the fridge2.gif to get colder and freeze food. It can normally be located in the control panel inside the fridge (it is the control that has wires, the other is the damper). Locate the thermostat and replace it. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Good Luck!! Mike

Temp light does not light up and temp does not get cold. inside door latch is broken model #pfs22sisbss

The main control board could solve the display problem . May also solve the cooling problem , but would need to know , if frost build up on back wall inside freezer , are both fans working (freezer and compressor cooling fan) , is the compressor running ,are the coils clean in back of refrig ? Unsure about a "door latch" . The freezer door ,rides on glides , and the magnetic gasket should hold it closed .
